"We went to Howie 's for the second time last Sunday, after I ran the Edinburgh marathon. Having eaten there once before and really enjoyed it, I purposely selected Howie 's as the place I wanted to go to after the race. The restaurant is in a fab location and the building premises are really inspiring. The food was excellent! I 'm gluten-free and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We started with traditional foods: I had the cullen skink and my husband had the haggis, needs and tatties. He also had half lobster for the main course and that looked really delicious. We didn 't get round to dessert because we were really full. My husband had also bought a special bottle of champagne to celebrate my finish and the restaurant were more than happy to serve that up to us. We did pay £5.50 corkage, but we both thought that was really reasonable. The staff are really warm and friendly and are happy to chat with you. You don 't feel as though you 're being rushed. Whilst there, we were treated to someone (another diner) 'addressing the haggis ' Burns style for some German tourists. It wasn 't Burns Night, I know, but it was fun to watch and gave us some added entertainment. I wouldn 't hesitate to go back there again. Indeed, I might visit Edinburgh JUST to go back there. Excellent value"

We had an excellent time at our Dinner on Saturday. The food was excellent and the service was great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant (and have already) and will most certainly return.

Well worth a visit here! Very friendly staff and good service. The food was very good! The elegant clean restrooms are a plus! Loved the refreshing fizzy lemonade! Loved the vegetarian flatbread with mint yogurt, vegetables, and couscous!

A bright and airy restaurant but tables are very close to each other, I constantly had to move my chair to allow people to pass... Service was prompt and food was fresh, piping hot and tasty, Would consider going back in a larger group as there is a lovely atmospheric feel to the place

Had graduation lunch which was advertised at 20 GBP/person but initially charged 30 GBP/person. Was further overcharged by adding the full price of steaks on top of that 30 GDP/person, however, eventually got refunded for that mistake. Food was overpriced. Wouldn't recommend the place for any special occasions. Staff was friendly.

First time at Howies and first impressions were that it was a lovely setting. All staff were friendly and attentive. The lunch menu had plenty choice and was worth the money and affordable. Jugs of water on the table at request which other restaurants ive been to dont offer this. Only thing was the Calamari for the starters were on the very thin side, however the whole table really enjoy all the food.

We booked Howies late one evening, which was very near where we were staying. We didn't expect much, as the other places we wanted to try were all booked until 9:30. However, we were wrong. They were able to seat us a little earlier than our reservation and the food was way beyond expectations. We had the fresh baked breads and the house mix olives and humous. For an appetizer we shared the Scottish Calamari with Asian lime and lemongrass sauce. This was prepared the way I prefer, thin cut, lightly done with an interesting dipping sauce. It was very good, so I ordered another. We had brown trout (2), roast rump of Scotch lamb, and a super salad. All the meals were good. We split some dessert...

"While trying to choose our dining options for a food-focused weekend in Edinburgh, I was slightly hesitant about booking aizle, since I hadn't seen a sample menu. I'm very glad that I didn't let that stop me, because the dishes were all delicious and inventive. All of the flavors were well balanced, the presentation was on point, and we had a tough time choosing our favorite dishes. Service was on a rotating basis, and our table was handled by 3 or 4 different wait staff, with two in particular serving the majority of the dishes. All were extremely friendly and efficient, projecting the impression of true pride and enjoyment in their work. I had read some critical reviews of the hotel-lobby location, and while there were a few times I noticed luggage trolleys and guests pass by in the hallway, the space is well-separated from the hotel. It's not a fully immersive location, but it didn't feel distracting. The space itself has a bit of a botanical greenhouse feel that made me think of an indoor garden party. The clientele on the evening of our visit was a varied mix with young foodie couples, small groups, and refined older pairs. The dress code was equally varied with smart casual being the most common. The only thing that kept my experience from being completely perfect was the glass of prosecco that started the evening. It had so little effervescence that it was just a small step away from still wine. After it was served, there was no follow-up, before the first course was served, so I never had the chance to question it. And the food distracted me enough to just let it go. If you're an aficionado of bubbles, I'd suggest asking for input to ensure you find something to your tastes."
