"The Salt Pepper Chicken was quite good—there wasn’t too much chili, and it had the right balance of salt, garlic, and onions. I think it would have benefited from more evenly sized pieces of chicken. (8/10) The Sweet and Sour Chicken was enjoyable, but the sauce was incredibly vibrant, almost overwhelming, and could have been considered borderline radioactive! I did appreciate the addition of fresh, raw onion, which added a nice crunchy texture. (7/10)
The Chicken Chow Mein had a pleasant smoky flavor and featured a perfect balance of noodles, chicken, and bean sprouts. (8/10) As for the Pork Balls, they were a bit too smooth and uniform in shape instead of being slightly irregular. This gave me a feeling that they might have been pre-made, although I doubt that was the case. The ratio of pork to batter could definitely be improved. (6.5/10) The Prawn Crackers were excellent, offering a great crunch and a generous portion—definitely no major complaints there. (9.5/10)
Overall, my return visit to The Take Away House was surprisingly positive. The place could benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a bit of sprucing up. I also wish the smokers from next door would be more considerate and stay away from the open door. It would be helpful if people waiting inside were mindful of their surroundings and didn’t block the ordering area while munching on their prawn crackers. But what can you do? The food was good—not amazing, but certainly a significant improvement from the slop I endured a few years ago.
