"I was looking forward to going to Kamal's for the first time since going vegan as I was there all the time when I was a vegetarian and really loved the food and atmosphere. We were mainly served by a fair-haired waitress who I recognised from her working there when I'd visited before. I always found her very pleasant but on this visit she was very rude from the outset. I understand people have bad days, but she just seemed to not care at all, never once smiled or said thank you and seemed to be chewing gum when she served us. I asked her about vegan options as there was a statement at front of menu to ask about vegan food and I had also seen really great reviews on trip advisor. When I asked her, she just looked at me and replied with, I don't know... stuff without cream like vegetable curry or chicken curry. I don't think I could hide my disappointment so she said she would go to the kitchen to ask. I then saw her wandering about the restaurant and didn't see her go near the kitchen at all. She came back and said, yeh vegetable curry and maybe, I don't know, balti ? I decided it would be safer to go with the vegetable curry which was okay but essentially frozen vegetables cooked in watery curry. The rice was the best part of the meal. My sister ordered two vegetarian dishes which looked a lot better. The only redeeming factor of the visit was a second waitress who served us and a man at the front desk who were very pleasant. I'm so disappointed at this experience because as I said, I used to come to Kamal's all the time and it used to have great atmosphere. I was worried we wouldn't even get a table on a Saturday night but there was one other couple when we arrived and one when we left. The service was quite shocking and I think if they advertise as having vegan options, then this needs to be more than a vegetable curry. However, I'm not sure if this was entirely the fault of the kitchen or the waitress who didn't seem bothered in the slightest about asking. Really hope Kamal's improves as I would love to go back someday and have the dishes and experience I used to love!"

"My wife and I booked a stay here on the recommendation of friends following a renovation of the hotel. The hotel has been done to a high standard and we were very impressed having fond childhood memories and very much enjoyed sitting looking at the amazing views. As part of the package we had an 4 course evening meal in Kove which we were looking forward too. The starter was beautiful a lovely duck spring roll for myself and a smoked chicken salad for my wife, all very fresh and flavoursome. For a main my wife ordered cod with asparagus and crab risotto and poached egg and I had crispy pork belly. Things went very wrong here! Someone forgot the seasoning!! The fish was sooooo bland, the risotto was just sticky rice and had no asparagus or crab in it, the meal was left in its entirety. My pork belly was anything but crispy it was a soggy mess of gloop. So disappointed. I was advised to order an extra side of which I choose champ it was dry and bland. The vegetables (mashed carrot and swede and broccoli) would be better served in a care home they were so mushy! The saving grace of this meal was the staff. They were excellent. I was offered another meal the same or anything else from the menu to which I declined as to be honest the mushy soggy gloopy pork had turned me. At the end of the evening without complaint the server had went out of her way to get a manager to come to us and apologise and compliment our drinks to which I had offered to pay for and they would not hear of. I was very impressed. A disappointment on the meal but handled with class. Hats off to Kove and the the Killyhevlin. Everyone can have a bad day."
