"There were 2 of us for lunch, and between us we had 5 dishes. 4 were excellent beef tartare, beef tagliata, a citrus mousse, and a fruity cheesecake. The fifth dish was inedible lamb with green beans. The lamb consisted of marginal pieces of lamb (mostly bone) way over cooked, and the green beans weren’t even green but a grayish color that didn’t even taste like a vegetable. Most Italians can’t cook fresh vegetables correctly, but I keep hoping that the better restaurants will be the exception. Not so far. Perhaps that is why there is seldom much of a choice for side dishes in restaurants. And this coming from someone who lived in the country for more than 10 years…….."
