"Rarely have I seen such arrogance in a restaurant. Wanted to go for a pizza at 2000 and saw that many tables were empty. "We were initially a bit reluctant to enter this quaint little restaurant from the Aare River side since it looked rather quiet, not realizing the restaurant is actually on the first floor! The deceptive entrance on this side (I seem to think the proper entrance is on the upper road parallel to the river) is rather uninviting as one passes the ablution facilities before heading upstairs to the real restaurant, where we were relieved to see the restaurant well occupied with guests, and we literally took the last available table! The cozy, intimate space seats a limited amount of tables and we were comfortable enough on a high table with 2 bar stools. The selection on the menu is ample to satisfy meat eaters (with the menu easily categorized by protein choice: chicken, beef, pork, seafood and duck), as well as vegetarians. Each main can be ordered with either rice or noodles at a minimal cost. I was delighted when our starter of Papaya salad was authentically Thai hot, and thus looked forward to the main dishes that we ordered in Thai strength heat! The seafood pad Thai was actually too hot for my Indian husband, while my tofu and vegetable green curry was adequately hot for my chilli-loving palate, with the additional Thai dried spice on the table. All dishes were super tasty, and of ample quantity. The prices were reasonable, considering the average prices of the surrounds. The menu was also in English! They also have a limited, but ample selection of drinks. The owners/waitresses were super efficient with their service and very friendly and accommodating, even allowing me to take some of their dried spices as a small takeaway That's how much I enjoyed the heat of this little firecracker of a restaurant!!"

"We visited after some hiking in the mountains and sitting on the patio was wonderfully restorative. Outside of regular kitchen hours, there was still a small selection of dishes available. "Food was alright and one of the waiters who served us was very friendly. However, we found a piece of plastic within one of the dishes and ask one of the waitresses to inform the kitchen. No one came back and gave any sort of apology regarding this until we ask for our bill. What we got was a rough and insincere apology that made us think that having plastic in our dish was some sort of joke. Didn't get to finish the dish that's been taken away and still have to pay for that within the bill. Honestly, in most cases, this is absolutely unacceptable."

"i feel compelled to post my first review after i dropped by McArthur's today upon seeing that they have a special offer on coffee and cake, little realising the treat i was in for. There's a spacious beer garden and when i entered the interior...is immediately striking as relatively light and colorful, spacious with cosy corners, and tastefully decorated in a fusion of unstuffy traditional and modern. The atmosphere is pleasant and easy going, friendly barman Tony quickly offered me the infamous scottish speciality of deep fried mars bar in batter as an alternative option to cake. This was promptly served with refreshingly contrasting ice cream on a plate beautifully decorated with chocolate sauce, and all that, with coffee, for a measly 7CHF. McArthur's has obviously been conceived with attention to detail in every aspect and is pristinely maintained, suitable for families until late evening and a nice alternative to unwind after work to enjoy a well earned quality irish or local craft beer or three with an extensive menu of moderately priced home cooked British Isles specialities, so it would make for an impressive budget date too. i look forward to returning with friends soon to try their homemade fresh fish'n'chips and will keep you posted.."

"We took the train to Thun and were just walking around and decided to stop here. We ate outside as the weather was good and they have a large area. Our waitress was very prompt and polite. She also took her time to recommend and explain some of the local beers, as well as their mixed drinks. They were very good. We started with nachos which were great. Again we had some questions about the menu and waitress was very good about explaining things. I had the ham and cheese sandwich which was one of the best I ever had. One in our group had the meat kebab and the meat was cooked perfect and delicious. Another in our party had the sausage kebab. It was very good as well and had 3 different types of sausage. Note, spicy sausage is very hot. Last in our group had simple chicken nuggets and fries. They offer large order of fries and small. Large order is enough for 4 people. Small order would feed 2. Overall just a great visit. I was going to give a rating of 4 but the food was great and the service as well, so I think they earned a 5."

"This is one of maybe two Indian restaurants in Thun, so if you're in search of a good Indian curry, one doesn't have many options here.This restaurant is opposite the main train station and away from the town Centre, so the outside atmosphere is not as vibrant, and almost isolated. One is welcomed by numerous friendly staff members, and there is seating inside and outside the restaurant. We visited on a Saturday night, so we ordered from the Ala Carte menu. Usually a buffet is offered Monday Friday. The menu is fairly extensive with all meats being offered; chicken, lamb and prawn; as well as a good vegetarian selection.They also have Thali specials. We opted for the chicken madras and the bhengan bharta. The food is kept warm at the table, each little copper pot on a candle burner. Each main meal is served with either rice, or a Naan bread. Being avid curry eaters, we found the food to be fairly bland and not very well balanced in flavors. The Naan bread also appeared to be store bought and not freshly made on the premises.The chilli pickles on the table were fortunately a good accompaniment for both curries. I enjoyed my Tshai, but there is also a decent bar selection of drinks. The staff are all very friendly and service is very prompt. The food prices are average, and the portions are large.Overall, a decent meal to satisfy our curry palates, but not the best!"

After 15 minutes my meal still had not arrived but my wife had almost finished her meal, so I asked the waitress for a discount because the meal was so late. She told me that was not possible and so i asked her to cancel it. She went to see the manager who came back with the meal and said that there was no discount and that if I didn’t want the meal then i would have to pay for it. There were not even any apologies. After all this I couldn’t eat the meal because the veal was tough and overcooked. I will never return."

"This is a lovely local restaurant near the covered bridge in Thun so a very pretty setting. There is outside and inside seating and today was quite mild so we chose outside. The waiter offered us english menus which was great. We had the stuffed tomatoes and a pizza to share. The stuffed tomatoes were fantastic and the pizza was also good although even sharing we could not get through it. Two wines and two beers and it was a relatively (for Switzerland) cheap meal. Recommended"
