"We tried out the app 'Too Good to Go' which aims to reduce food waste by alerting local residents of shops or cafes selling surplus food at a discounted price. Intrigued by the promise of Italian bread, cakes, and pastries, we purchased two 'Magic Bags' for £5 from La Mucca Nera and went to pick them up at closing time. The app indicated that the contents of the bags would be worth £15. However, we were disappointed to find that one of the bags contained only a croissant and a small, expired bag of Happy Shopper salt and vinegar crisps. After pointing out that we had paid for two bags, the staff replaced the croissant with four small pieces of Rocky Road, claiming it was worth £5. Unfortunately, the cakes were extremely stale and inedible, causing my children to spit them out. We were hoping for fresh cakes that were still good but just couldn't be sold the next day, as that is the purpose of the app. The inclusion of expired crisps only added insult to injury. We were disappointed with our experience overall, as we were expecting a bargain but instead received old and unsatisfactory items."
