I recently had the best fish and chips I've experienced in London at the Builders Arms, a delightful gastrobar located in a slightly inconvenient spot in Chelsea, seemingly away from the bustling streets. However, it was bustling with lively locals. The interior features high ceilings and inviting, colorful sofas that create a warm atmosphere.
We started with the seafood sharing plate, and I must say, the oyster butter was the best I've ever tasted. The garlic clams were equally divine. Unfortunately, the spider crabs were a bit too fishy and didn’t quite match the overall excellence of the seafood platter.
Then the fish and chips arrived, and they were simply perfect. The batter was crisp, the seasoning was excellent, and the fish was incredibly fresh and juicy. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The chips were great, accompanied by a smooth tartar sauce and rich mushy peas that rounded out the dish beautifully.
I can never resist dessert when I have fish, and the chocolate cake did not disappoint. It was a delicious, traditional British treat in a polite yet unpretentious setting. I would definitely return to the Builders Arms! The experience cost around £30 per person.
