"We were staying in Northumberland Avenue, and this seemed an obvious location for our evening meal, celebrating my wife 's birthday with the family, especially as we had just travelled on the Eye and could see it from our table. The setting was characterful and the service very pleasant. Things started to go wrong when two of our party received gin and tonics. These were sent back as they tasted mainly of water with little hint of gin. They were replaced with an apology and explanation that the machine wasn 't functioning properly. After that our starters and mains were generally acceptable (duck, chicken and salmon), the vegan option was appreciated by one of us, and the kids ' meals were enjoyed by our boys. However, my wife, whose special occasion it was, described her moules mariniere as the worst she had ever eaten. The waitress passed the dish over the table to my wife, saying 'be careful of the sauce ', but it was so full and runny that my wife managed to spill it on her brand new dress. She said the mussels were very small and the sauce too runny and tasteless. She made her views known to one of the waiting staff, and certainly her complaint was taken very seriously the costs of her meal and both her drinks were removed from the bill, which was appreciated. I see there are a number of other reviews mentioning low quality meals, and it is a pity that a restaurant in such an attractive location cannot serve good meals consistently."

"I visited here for lunch last Saturday afternoon with some friends who were visiting for the weekend. They were looking to try somewhere healthy, in city centre and nice to relax in for a couple of hours, which is a harder than it sounds! A friend suggested the CCA as it serves some lovely big salad bowls. We were not disappointed, all four of us ended up ordering salads. A friend and I both had the Thai noodle salad and both loved it. Lovely fresh salad, packed with flavours and textures and coated in a delicious dressing. My friends also order the beetroot salad and the butternut squash one, which they also said were really good. The salad's are served with bread, making it a very filling meal. We had some small plates between us, sweet potato fries and soy asparagus. We spent a few hours sitting in the courtyard over lunch with a couple of drinks. It's a great space to chill out in! The only downfall was the service, when we walked in I had booked a table, being a Saturday afternoon we weren't sure how busy it would be and as we arrived two members of staff didn't know which table was ours. It was a bit of a confusing start to the meal. as we were seated we were instantly asked if we wanted drinks but needed a couple of minutes to look at the menu, we waited another 15 minutes until someone came back to take drinks orders. Not ideal but we weren't in a rush at least. In general the service was slow and distant the entire afternoon. I also tried some items on the mezzie platter while here for a Yelp Newbies night. Everything I tried that day was also really tasty! I will definitely be back to eat here, I think I would like everything on the menu! It's a great space, with a nice atmosphere and great food."

"My daughters treated me to an afternoon tea at the Dome….which we were so looking forward to…..on arriving we were shown to our seat by a pleasant young man. We were then asked what kind of scone would we like I.e. fruit or plain….which we never thought about at the time. We then got our glass of champagne which was an extra fee….NOT..champagne it was Cava…..anyway we didn’t query as we were looking forward to our afternoon tea. The cake stand looked so bare and the cakes certainly were nothing like shown on this page. I then had the sandwiches which were lovely. I then went to eat eat my scone …..but the knife couldn’t go through it as it was so hard….I then asked the waiter for another one and showed him the crumbly scone which he touched and said it was hard. He the brought another one (which took about 10 minutes to bring) we then thought they are frozen and taken out to heat before serving….that’s why we were asked what kind we wanted. They were obviously taken out by order of preference….Again same thing happened the scone crumbled as I tried to cut in half. I asked to speak to the manager who then told me they were baked that morning!!!!!no way they were brick hard. Anyway she deducted one afternoon tea of the bill, which was ok…but to be honest it wasn’t about getting a free afternoon tea it was thfact it was my birthday and my daughters were so disappointed for me. By the way they’re scones were tasteless…..so The Dome…..get decent scones that loook like scones and make your cake stand more inviting and you wouldn’t get bad feedback from customers."
