"We stayed overnight on a package deal, which included a 3 course dinner from the set menu. The set menu looked interesting, but there were items on each course which were not available, disappointingly. However we were upgraded to our choice from the a la carte menu, so no complaints there, but the service from the kitchen was incredibly slow. By the time we had waited 35 minutes for our cheeseboard and ice cream desserts, we were steaming. However at check out, the Receptionist removed the supplementary charges for drinks with our meal from our bill by way of compensation, which we greatly appreciated: a reported problem solved immediately, which is excellent customer service. I must however agree with previous reviewers that the restaurant decor is dreary, soulless, devoid of character, poorly lit and generally completely uninspiring. There is not a single green plant to break the relentless theme of wood, which is a shame as the quality of the food at both dinner and breakfast was really rather good. There seemed to be relatively few people staying however, which made us marvel at the mounds of pastries and fresh fruit set out in the morning I would hate to see the food waste here! And just one other small gripe about the restaurant: why did staff seat the 13 covers dining that night all on adjacent tables, when the restaurant is otherwise empty? Most people, especially the Brits, like a bit of space around them so they can chat without the neighbouring tables overhearing everything they say. Come on Marriott train your restaurant staff to seat people sympathetically, short out the dismal decor, and put a boot up the kitchen team you have a cracking place here with great potential, but sadly your guests are a captive audience due to the location of the hotel and clearly are treated as such. You CAN do better!"
