"We had booked a table for 7.30 pm dinner and after waiting in line we’re shown to a table. The table next to us was very very loud and discussing business on a Saturday night. We could not hear each other above their din. After 30 minutes a waiter came to take our order and we asked for a quieter table. We were told to walk outside to the terrace. Essentially this is an area in the thoroughfare of the hotel (inside) behind a wooden low fence. After another 20 minutes I went to find a waiter who said he would come out to take our order. After another 10 minutes I went and found another server. The waiter I had seen before recognised me and hit his hand on his head and came out to us. The starter was delicious but we had to chase up the bottle of wine and never got our glasses of water. When the main course was delivered by a lady she said “Bon appetit” but we said we couldn’t eat without cutlery. She promised us some but we never saw her again. After 5 minutes my husband went and found cutlery because his fish and chips were getting cold. My shepherds pie was tasteless, lots of potato and a thin layer of lamb in a watery tasteless gravy. Nobody ever came back to check on us. They add a discretionary 12.5% tip for a service charge which I didn’t think they deserved so we took the bill to the desk and told the manager of our experience. He blames the management for trying to reduce staff and told us it was our own fault because we voted for Brexit. I pointed out to him I didn’t. He said it is like that every night. He removed the service charge and 20% off the food which was fair but next time I stay at the Sofitel I will bring a picnic and save a pot of money and disappointment."

"This was booked as a birthday treat. There was only one option at booking for price which said from £16.50. We got there and stood waiting for a while (the place was empty) to be seated. On the menu I had viewed it said there was salmon, and as neither of us liked that I asked if this could be changed. The lady never came back to us to ask what we would like in exchange in stead the next time we saw her she was bringing out the food. What we were given was nothing like what was on the menu but we didn't complain and ate it. It was no where near as good as what we were expecting. We never saw the waitress again and were there for 1.5 hours so didn't get asked if we would like any more drinks. When it came time to pay they advised it would be £75. I showed them the booking and the website along with the confirmation which they had received. At that point the waitress said they have never had salmon on their afternoon tea menu. So I showed her the website menu. They then told us to go to reception to get a resolution there. We were told a supervisor would be called. 20 minutes later still waiting. I asked for a manager to be called. 10 minutes later someone showed up. They agreed to paying £16pp. Back round to the restaurant to pay. This should have included the drinks but they decided to charge extra for them. By this point I was so stressed and it was ruining the birthday treat I just paid and we left. I will never recommend this place or return. The customer service is shocking."

"One of the worst experiences i’ve ever had in hospitality. Firstly, I had a table booked via opentable which the host seemed to have no idea about. She asked us to wait at the bar until she got our table ready. 35 mins later, still waiting to have our drinks order taken, we were seated in the restaurant. This same host seated us and asked if we’d like any water for the table, to which we asked for a jug of tap water. This water never came. Another 30 mins go by, still no food or drinks order. We tried getting the attention of the waiters but no one would come over. Eventually a young man came over, who asked for our drinks order. We had no drinks menu so asked to see one. He took our food order first and then returned with a drinks menu. But no one came back to take our drinks order. Our starters then come out… still no drinks order. When delivering the food we asked if we could order some drinks, and this was the only time we could order drinks for the whole 3 hour duration of our meal. Once we’d had the food, we asked for a dessert menu. Baring in mind, our mains came out exactly 2 hours after the table was booked that shows how slow the service was. No one came to take this dessert order until another 35 mins later. We felt completely abandoned by all the staff. They then had the cheek to add a service charge on. I hate taking the service charge off as i work in hospitality myself but in this instant I was gobsmacked they even put it on. Wouldn’t return even if it was my last meal on earth."
