"Bit of mixed evening slow start and bad ending. BAR Great decor but perhaps as we came earliesh (5pm? was not fully staffed so had to flag down the server to take our order.  OK cocktails but nothing special.  No bar snacks.  We felt ignored.  FOOD  Absolutely great brasserie cuisine.  The chops especially nice as seasoned to perfection and sliced off the bone.  Fun retro (1980s desert trolley with drawers.  Again excellent food all around. WINE Charming sommelier who listened and recommended a surprisingly and smashing white!  STAFF Heaps of them but not sure they are very well organized.  Friendly but cater and pander (very very obviously to regulars and celebs.  Made us feel abit 2nd class honestly and we definitely were not the staff's priority.  DOG POLICY  None on website BUT a medium/large poodle nearby us was allowed and it barked and barked loud enough for the entire dining room to notice. The owner nor the staff took any proactive action to resolve this.  Our dessert course was absolutely ruined for 30 minutes.  We did mention to manager and he said he would look into the policy but did not take any action at the time.  We love animals but they belong at home not in a restaurant we paid nearly £300 for dinner!  Utterly unacceptable.  Per Covid this would never happen.  RECOMMENDED Absolutely NOT unless you are a dog lover, lesser royal, cast member of Made in Chelsea or a posh regular who lives round the corner "

"Me and my boyfriend went for our 5th year anniversary meal. They messed our booking up as we had to cancel our first booking but they were under different email addresses and we were told they had sorted it. We arrived to a woman who eventually gave us a table after we had tried to explain they had cancelled the wrong booking even though I had emailed from a different email address and they had confirmed the previous one has been cancelled the day before we made the second booking, she still told us it wasn’t the restaurant fault and we weren’t bothered as accidents happen… The food was average at best, nothing special what so ever, I got the fish and chips and the fish was extremely greasy and I found some black plastic in my fish, however I did not complain as I have good manners and didn’t want to cause an issue as we were there for a celebration. My boyfriend has allergies and could not eat coleslaw so we asked for it to be removed…his burger arrived with coleslaw inside!!! Luckily I had realised and warned him before something serious happened and we asked for a replacement which took 15 minutes! I had almost finished my meal by that point. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding and it was completely dry inside, I was struggling to get my spoon through it and we did not finish it. The cocktail and beer was average and overpriced. Paid for a coke, came in a small glass with more ice than anything and wasn’t even half a can. The most strange thing was that when we asked for the service charge of £8 to be removed…a very old woman with short hair and large glasses and clearly a temper issue came over and spoke to us horribly and questioned why we had asked for it to be removed. I told her the fish I got was very greasy and the cake was very dry, she did not like my honest reply and started to raise her voice which was very unprofessional, I was so shocked with her tone of voice and then she of all people asked us to leave when we refused to pay the service charge and I told her it was discretionary as it said on the menu. Disgusting treatment from what I’m assuming is the manager and I’ve seen other reviews now that have complained about the same woman. Honestly so disappointing as we went for a celebration and someone had to ruin a nice day for us, hope she gets some help with herself or finds a job more suited to her hopefully away from members of the public. Any further questions please email."

"when they say the name loud, it sounds a wee bit unaughty (wink wink), but coq is hahn in French. or in the round it's just a huh for us normal people. le coq specializes in redsserie tea with roasted chicken as main feature, with a weekly changing mix of meat and veggie options. I guess it would be foreseeable that it is a posh nandos, but in some way it is. Tasty healthily boiled huhn is its whole point. but of course it is better than nandos and really increases the bar for chicken farms. they have three appetizers, three main courses and three desserts as a menu on various announcements around the room. They throw some side options for those with an ugly appetit, but the menu is well proportional and fill. there is nothing worse than having too many options, as it takes too long to order, especially if everything is appealing. on this small highbury corner spot they suffer from the same question to want everything, but it is made easier by making a trio of options per curs so that they finally come. they sit, observe the rotisserie spin the shin as the skin brown and glitters. the meat remains moist and delicate, and they will be served a nice piece and upper leg. fitore, my today's Islington-Esspartner, had exactly that. with a little wild greens and a creamy dip, she grabbed with jealousy. I went for the beef top with wild mushrooms, grilled paprika and veg. that was our main course to re-double, for beginners she had snuggle in a creamy tomato sauce. I had blood orange, fennel and avocado. the menu changes all couple weeks, so if they encounter them, it will be new goodies to choose from. this piece of highbury corner was earlier a little twisted, but le coq, trullo and firezza have brought a bit of class to this no one's country ending the upper street. there are also some extensive work on circular traffic to alleviate that he smokeable traffic flow close to. There are two things that bring me back here. one, I love huh and two, I like this every time I visit there, something new will be. on a last note there is no harm on the wallet."
