"Exceedingly Good Cakes. I've had my ups and downs with this place, having gone there semi-regularly since it opened. The food, service and ambience has variably been good, great, not so good, and occasionally terrible. I accept that restaurants operate with a transient workforce, and that this can cause inconsistencies in product and service over a given period of time. The one thing, however, that has remained at an excellent standard in Epicures is its cakes, pastries, scones, breads and all other things baked. I'm more of an afternoon diner so often choose from the pastry menu, wherever I happen to be, and can honestly state that Epicures' range of freshly baked goods is of a standard unrivalled by any of its local competitors. Not that this should reflect badly on these other business, just that Epicures does do, as Mr Kipling might put it, exceedingly good cakes."
