"We came here on a bit of a whim, owing to its central location right next to the Baths. Having not booked we were greeted warmly and offered a table near the stage. It was wonderful to be able to hear the musicians so well but it wasn’t so loud as to be overly distracting and we were still able to converse and enjoy our afternoon tea with this accompaniment. The room itself deserves comment too- absolutely beautiful, it feels like a decidedly appropriate setting for a grand afternoon tea. The food itself was delicious. Sandwiches, savouries and cakes were almost perfect and you could taste their quality. When you’re presented with an afternoon tea it always feels you’re being ripped off, as though there is very little food for your money but, as ever, it was very filling and just the right amount of food. The quality and attention to detail further justifies the price for me. After our warm welcome the service deteriorated a little as well. It was nigh impossible to get a second pot of tea/ some hot water and when I did manage to ask it was treated almost as an imposition. It also took us an age to be able to pay the bill- although I could have happily sat in that splendour all afternoon."
