"If you were not looking for the sign you would think this was ‘The Grey Horse’ because the branding is not as clear as the pub’s large writ original sign. That being said the decor inside and in garden is great. Staff are friendly, polite...and helpful and overall I enjoyed my lunch there but would not recommend the Desperate Dan Pie, which I so wanted because of my memories of The Dandy. the lack of cow horns and cow tail protruding from the dish was a very minor omission, I never really expected it. The pie looks different and quite intriguing, described as ‘hearty’ by the server, it is indeed a full meal and I finished it off but would not have it again and would not recommend it at least not as served. The heart of the pie was delicious, the meat, mushrooms etc cooked to perfection with a rich sauce. Unfortunately I did not enjoy the suet crust or the radioactive looking green breadcrumb , parsley and marrow ball in the centre both detracted from the excellence of the meat and the breadcrumb mix was almost cheesy in taste and far too strong and overpowering. The size of the pie was fine. The idea is not bad…will make my own version at home because with a few little changes it would be excellent but then who am I to tell a fine dining chef what I think? Beer…top marks for an excellent Voodoo IPA even if at £6.50 a pint it was a bit hefty . The pie was £19.50 which buys you a whole cow in Yorkshire and a pint of John Smiths, still I bought another beer because it was nice and a very hot day. I will go again, mainly because of decor and staff and also to try a few other things from the menu."
