"beautiful champagne and cheese, friendly service, but as I have a wheat allergy, I was disappointed that they were not better with wheat-free brot or crackers. the first waiter I asked gave me a flat “no” without review, the second checked on their own initiative and they had a left chest of a cut wheat-free leaves so that I had the plus a little salate. it's really easy to keep just a package of gluten-free heel cake in the kitchen or a cut laaf toast in the deep freezer. they have an excellent selection of champagne, and very good cheese and sausages."

"this is now called mez mangal and is led by the same people I believe. I was here for the birthday as I love Turkish eating! we booked a table, but the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived at 4.45 for an early dinner. we had hot starter plates and humors mixed to begin. this was served with an amazing flat brot, that we are all too much! for my head I had lamme apron that were sooo good, I still greet the thoughts on them. all others also enjoyed their meal times. our only criticism is that the service was somewhat sporadic/relaxed, especially if it was not busy. would definitely go back!"

"Should really update and follow your time schedule for accuracy. Suggest people to call in ahead if you can. Today (Wednesday) the info says open at got to the Cafe at the chairs hadn't even been taken off the tables. A man just walks to the door and puts a hand written sign on it, sorry today we open at without any explanation. Would have liked to support a local Cafe. To our disappointment, we had to walk somewhere else instead."

"Walked past and thought it looked lovely, booked a table for 7.30 so we could pop across the road and enjoy a drink first. Lady server kindly put a reserve sign on an outside table underneath the canopy. Came back to find our table had been allocated to someone else. They brought a new table out which was wonky). However as no room under the canopy, we were on the pavement. 5 minutes later it started to rain so we had no option to move inside. Would not have needed to if they had given us our original table. Now I could have forgiven that had the food been exceptional, sadly not . I had the meatballs, which were so dry i had to ask for a sauce/dip to accompany them. The meal which included boiled rice salad was dry and of poor quality. My other half ordered lamb moussaka. The comment was it was ok but could not see much lamb. When the bill came we saw why, they had given her a vegetarian moussaka ! We pointed this out to the waitress, no apology and no interest, shrugged her shoulders and walked off. On a side note another table had the bill brought to them 3 times as they had been charged for extra items that had not been part of there meal."

"Dinner was absolutely delicious, service was very attentive. Two things influenced the evaluations for the ambience first, the background music was too loud for convenient conversation and secondly the child-friendly aspect. I didn't expect there to be children in sun loungers in the restaurant at 8:00. It's good for parents, but not so much for other diners."

"First time here, so not being familiar ordered too much, though the server indicated as such. Tapas we ordered, russian salad tortilla, were bigger than expected. Enjoyed what we could eat though I found it slighty too salty for my taste. Service good and were informed dinner menu was different and some live music Friday evening. Some fresh produce and delicacies can be purchased to takeaway. Unisex toilet available. Seating inside and out. Heard customers speaking Spanish so possibly an indication of authenticity."

"We had a lovely evening meal here with my friend. The salami plate was delicious with a good selection of authentic hungarian salamis. "I came to Leicester from London for a meeting and wanted a snack before heading home on the train. I always try to avoid chain restaurants if possible, so I stumbled upon this small café with good reviews and decided to give it a try. The seating was limited, but I ordered the vegetarian calzone for £3.50 and it was a great deal compared to London prices. The dough was perfectly cooked and the filling was delicious. The service was friendly and it was charming to hear the hosts chatting in Italian. It's not a fancy place for dinner, but if you're looking for a quick and tasty bite, this place is just the ticket."

"Lovely setting, very homely and welcoming waitress/owner, manager? Service was a bit slow (we didn't mind at all as it was comfortable) but we went at the start of January so I suspect they didn't expect many customers to turn up in their small restaurant! Food was really tasty, presented well and plentiful. We only had breakfast dishes with coffee and smoothies, but thought we will come back to sample more dishes in the evening, very soon! It was a good sign as well that every table was taken."

"I went to Le Vieux Comptoir with a friend for a long overdue catch up and the restaurant is a wonderful hidden gem. I 'm not usually a red wine person, but the Malbec was one of the best I 've had! We had a delicious cheese charcuterie board to start which came with a basket of bread. We both ordered the Confit de Canard which rivalled one I recently had in Paris. And the service was wonderful. The staff were friendly, welcoming and made lovely conversation The thing which really ruined our evening was a woman and her friends (see KKSpecialAgent 's review below). When the staff came to clear their plates she responded by saying 'she could have made better at home ' just incredibly rude. Why didn 't she say something before they cleared their plates?! They politely thanked her for her feedback and offered her some bread or a replacement meal, which she declined, before complaining to her friends that she was still hungry. She then spent at least 20 minutes complaining incredible loudly to her friends and all members of staff who came by her table, which ruined the evenings of everyone around her. When the bill came she complained loudly again at the cost, which was very reasonable given three of them had wine, starters and mains. She was so rude that when she went to the bathroom her friends apologised to the staff on her behalf. Honestly, a horrible woman who really impacted my evening! She could have quietly said if there was something wrong with her meal and the restaurant would happily have provided an alternative. Her review is not reflective of the restaurant at all!"

"The entire experience at this restaurant was exceptional. There was a mixed-race lady and a young white man serving, who were both outstanding despite not getting their names. The young lady at the bar was very attentive and made sure her customers were satisfied with her service. The young man at the food counter was respectful and treated the children there as if they were adults. I was so impressed that I complimented him on his fantastic job, only to find out it was only his second week. The toilets were clean and the music was great. The only downside was when a customer's clothes were stained by a spill from the bar lady, and the manager on duty could not compensate for the cleaning as the bar was owned by the council. This was disappointing and let down the establishment."

"The only way people would come to this place is by recommendation, not in passing as it is hard to find from the street. At first glance the sign is above a tanning saloon which appears to have gone out of business. The resturant is actually way down a side ally entered by a black door with no sign. It is a bit of an initiatve test. Once in, all is good. Although there was only one other table with customers there the whole time, so quite empty therefore lacking a little atmosphere for a Saturday night. Service food was very good. Well worth the effort in finding how to get in!."
