"This was the most disappointing tea experience we had in the UK. I wanted our last afternoon to be special and really do it up with a fancy afternoon tea experience to round out our vacation. After pouring over reviews and photos I settled on Prestonfield. We reached the rather remote location and were fairly quickly ushered upstairs to a lavishly, if not garishly, decorated room filled with sofas and tea tables. It was very dark and overstuffed with furniture. Being August, I had assumed we would be seated outside because of all the pictures I had seen online, but the weather was a bit iffy that day, so inside we were. There was a family slouched around one of the sofa sections as we entered which was not the upscale atmosphere I was looking for based on the price and location. We were seated in a corner with a loveseat and armchairs and 2 low tables. Our server was very attentive and explained everything in detail (except that the portions were massive) and we all ordered One tea each which turned out to be way too much food. The food itself was lackluster, but there was plenty of it. There were actual buckets of scones. I had the champagne add on for 15 pounds which was just a scant pour. We were also treated to another large family being seated right next to us with kids running around and playing videos on speakerphone. In short it was NOT the experience I had hoped a 50 pound tea would provide. If you decide to try it based on the glowing reviews here and on TripAdvisor, just be sure to determine where you will be seated (all the views are downstairs with the windows and light and there are actual tables to sit at). It did not look a thing like the pictures online. And don 't order more than one tea per person. You will be bagging up dry scones to go. Honestly I wouldn 't bother."

"Terrible. Went for Champagne Afternoon tea on a Saturday. Arrived early and was put into a small room to the left and waited. Assumed this was a waiting room as we were early. A waiter finally showed up 20 minutes later and asked if we were there for the afternoon tea and then dropped two menus on the coffee table and walked away. 10 minutes later he came back and explained the menu and dietarys. We advised that we disliked 2 items, so he said these would be switched. The waiter then brought a tray and set up the coffee table for service. This was confusing as we'd booked into the restaurant, not a drawing room. The seats were uncomfortable to sit for 2 hours and the fire went out so it became cold quickly. We then got our tea, but we had to ask again for the glass of champagne, we finally got this 1 hour after arriving. When the afternoon tea food arrived, it was average at best. Definitely not worth the money. They hadn't switched the items we didn't want and some of the food was inedible. The salmon sandwich finger was good and couple of the dessert items were good. The scones were very dry and hard, they hadn't even been warmed. The carrot cake was also very dry. Once we ate we then waited for someone to come by so we could ask for the bill. No one came past again, so we got up and went to the desk to settle the bill and leave. Overall very poor, definitely not worth the £65 per person. Avoid."

"by esin huseyin the grill market could feel a greasy airflower serving dripping burgers - they will be glad to know that this is not another burger review. the grill market was reopened recently after a month of renovation, so I decided that it was the perfect time to drive to holborn and see what it was about. it led a small debate between me and koray, as though the place a “handful”, eating for us justified more of a restaurant vibe, and they will find out why. well, I really went past this place, quite possibly because I am not normally a holborn girl, but I think mainly because grill market is very used with its shopfront and color palette. large windows on both sides of the building to create a lot of natural light, as well as the use of wood, metal and gray – it created a clean and friendly environment. the open kitchen and seating opportunity, created a warmer environment, and even allows them to be a bit more involved in the food – they can see what is being prepared, and the smells from the kitchen entice them. As I said, it is all quite neutral – but the fun and the color is injected through their food. I want to say that in the hour or so that I was here, this place had a constant flow of people, and even had a squeeze to most of my time there. it may be because I visited during the midday hours, but in any case it was a good sign – there were even calls of people in “Oh, it’s changed here...” concerning me when they can keep regular customers in a city that constantly grows and expands, they my friend, earn a medaille. grill market has a few menus to choose from; breakfast, lunch and salad. I decided of course for the lunch menu and decided to go a little light with a mixed salad and fresh hot halloumi from the grill. before I ordered, my exact words were “I am not much salad man...” – I was wrong, so wrong, that I will eat my hat halloumi. now a little more about the salads, here were the selections I had to choose: tomato, broth, red planks, caps, roasted paprika basilikum. chickpeas, mais, korrian, early on onions harissa dressing. cous cous, quinoa, bulgian weiz, roasted courgette, minze, feta pint nuts. kale, bon, hazelnuts, with an orange ingwer dressing. carrots, white red cabbage, green paprika, vinage I would be here for age groups if I went into detail about each individual salate – but there were some that I loved more than others. the cous cous was my favorite; the note of feta and mint that came through were amazing, and super refreshing. the salat that had actually brot was really incredible – now this brot was actually wet from the dressur used, and wet brot is usually a huge artpas. in the word of the child; it was not a “No no no no no no”, but it was a huge “yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes” moment. if they don't know this reference, I'm old. the contrast between the hot eating from the grill and the cold salad – simply worked. they are not the first to do this, but I feel that the choice of salads they have used was not only original, but honestly, it would be something for everyone. if they are in a little hurry, they can also take it away in a box that is good for the location, as it is mainly office space around holborn. the salads were all freshly made on this day, and they could taste that the salads were still crispy! salate tends to go a bit meh when it sits in his dressing for one because. and the one thing to mention that the salads all change once in a because, so they will never look bored – we are quite trying to get back to a few weeks! this week it was a Persian lamb flat brot. nom. there are many reasons why I enjoyed my visit and would go back; the friendly mood of the place (they were even old j, I know that I said this in another review on the other day, but they come up. , friendly staff (they even knew their ancestors well, good eating, but also the fact that they don't rely on their food alone because it regularly changes. that is for me success, not to mention, if they can make me eat a plate of salad and be full of it, it is worthy of assessment. for our non-food-related reviews and functions or updates to the reviews we have published here on zomato, please visit our website."
