"The last time I ate in this building was over 25 years ago when the restaurant was Montmerencies. It was excellent so I decided to give the Flaming Cow a try. The menu options were very limited. My wife selected the half rack and wings combo and i went for a burger. The burger did not come with French fries but my wife’s choice did. As she is not a great lover of fries I didn’t order an extra portion to accompany my burger but did ask for a side of onion rings. Despite there being 3 types of ale on the menu the only one available was a 330 ml can of Camden Pale Ale at 6 pounds. I didn’t realise the price when ordering or I would have made do with water. My wife went for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. There were only two wines available, the SB and a Malbec. The wine appeared to have been subjected to a reverse miracle, having been turned from wine into water. It was so weak that I am surprised it was allowed out without an accompanying nurse. The waitress returned to advise me that they were out of onion rings so did I want another side instead. I would have had a salad except the only one on the menu was a full main course chicken salad. I declined. When the food arrived my burger was ok but nothing special. The ribs on my wife’s meal were excellent, tasty and with the meat falling off the bones. The same could not be said of the wings. I know people have differing palates but I never thought that wings could be made inedible for me. The taste was of a concoction of chemicals that were never meant to be in the vicinity of food. We left and retired to the George, opposite, where I was able to enjoy a couple of pints of Guardsman at “only” 5 pounds a pint. This was my first and last visit to the Flaming Cow."

"If I could write a review without giving this restaurant a star rating I would! I am writing this after visiting with my partner last night-Valentines Day which also happens to be my birthday. On arrival I was confronted by a less than enthusiastic host who suggested we sit in a dark corner of the restaurant. Ok, romantic perhaps. Not at all. We were given menus and left momentarily before we made our drinks order. I ordered a banana pecan rum which I actually pointed to within the menu for clarity purposes but I got the non alcoholic version! After this we waited over 10 minutes for someone to take our food order even though it was empty my partner actually got up to go and order from the bar, as she did this a waiter rushed over. He then asked if the menu had been explained to us, again perplexed I thought oh perhaps there was a special however it was to clarify that half the menu was no longer available (this was 8pm on Valentine 's Day). No Mac n Cheese, no this no that and this is after being in the restaurant for at least 30 minutes. Unacceptable. We ordered and waited what seemed a lifetime (over 20 minutes) for our food. When the waiter brought out the 12 wings my partner ordered he stated they only had 6 left so that 's what she got!! No apologies, nothing. So we waited all that time without being given the option to amend our order!!! Not even a complimentary cocktail or appetiser. Disgusting! The food was sub standard. My pasta dish was barely warm and stale tasting far too much Parmesan and if that was a 'spicy ' sauce I wouldn 't like to know what mild is as it was a very sickly cheesy tomato sauce. As we ate in this dark corner tortured by a very loud speaker billowing the sounds of a performer, we were joined by staff cleaning and polishing cutlery at a table beside us and what seemed to be the manager browsing Facebook. Not the romantic atmosphere I expected I felt like I was in a workplace canteen!! My experience ruined the end of my birthday!"
