"Food was excellent. Not cheap, though I guess this is central London. Surprised that there was no one else in the restaurant all the time we were there, from 6pm onward on a Saturday night. "Really disappointing we used to be regulars pre pandemic, first time back and it seems much has changed. Maybe they were having an off night but the tempura was soaked in oil, they did change it but the new dish came back the same, dripping. The rolls were fine but nothing blew us away like it used to. The atmosphere was different, I don’t know if it’s changed ownership but where we used to come out of this place buzzing, it was just flat and the staff just seemed so indifferent. The other thing that really ruined the atmosphere are all the delivery drivers who stand outside impatiently pressing the buzzer and looking through the window the same window we and our friend were seated at. I did food deliveries during the pandemic and was always respectful of diners when in dining came back I always made sure the staff knew I was there then would wait discreetly… Maguro really need to have some system in place so the drivers don’t gang up around the entrances, it completely ruins the experience from the moment you arrive and have to push past the drivers to get into the restaurant! So disappointing and I’m not sure we’d come back to dine in."

"Spotted this place on Yelp after so many people bookmarked it, just as well as I'm rarely in town and would never have known it existed After some negotiating traffic and road closures I arrive at the door, first impressions is .... Oh no it's just a take out place .... I go in and I'm surprised to see it has ample bar seating and some tables too! Yeah I get a seat The menu is immediately available as it doubles as your placemat, order my drinks and they come quickly. Decent amount of choice and I'm surprised at how low the prices are given its city centre location. Place an order of many things as I'm a pig Salmon maki comes first, not sure what the lovely waitress said as she placed it down however I was hungry and got stuck in, it looked different .... Then I realise it is cooked salmon.... Taste is obviously different too, just as I was feeling that it isn't really what I wanted..... Some salmon maki arrives?????? Another, this time uncooked as you would expect.... I question it and I'm told the first was for free...... What!!!! Free.... 6 maki .... To try wow! Nice! Loved it a little more now My chicken teriyaki miso ramen arrives, huge bowl, well presented and with a traditional wooden ladle, it was delightful plenty of noodles, chicken and packed full of flavour Then..... I'm feeling ashamed now .... My veg tempura arrives ..... I audibly gasp at the portion size, all that for a fiver! Geeeez I managed half the ramen and shock horror had to box up the tempura to take with me..... Anyone that knows me knows I hate doing this .... My partner Maria however does it every restaurant and it drives me crazy! However there was so much food and the tempura not even touched I had to! All that including drinks £19.20 well cheaper than I would spend in yo sushi and much more flavour with a personal service It looses a star however for the following No bubble tea as advertised on the menu (I was disappointed as I love me a bbt) The interior as much as I love an industrial/stressed/wood feel I do not however like plywood on the walls, bare concrete great, rusting metal great look, distressed wood and brickwork lovely..... Plywood cheap and nasty, I would have preferred anything even some reclaimed wood, old pallets anything but ply Next was cash only, I had none on me, it was a little inconvenient to walk down to central station to get cash out a machine and come back to pay, even if they did trust I would return (I did offer to leave my driving licence as proof of return) All in though, you go for the food and service on that I will definitely be returning"

"we were in the odean and wandered to the city to eat something. I've been here with my friend and although she didn't like what she was eating last time she was here, I was happy to try again. there was a replacement table (on Saturday night lucky,) but they only take cash, so we asked them to keep the table while we found a money machine. the staff was very helpful and pleasant and we both enjoyed a beautiful meal. I think this meal has won my friend to eat Japanese, so we will definitely come back."

"We had a Japanese friend staying with us who had not had a Japanese meal in England before. We decided to try this Japanese restaurant as a takeaway and ordered several dishes. Our friend rated the meal overall as a 6 out of 10. I...would agree with her. The dishes were cooked to the Western palate and had a little too much sugar added making the fried udon, teriyaki chicken and fried aubergine all too sweet for the Asian palate. However, we will still visit the restaurant in future. We will make a point to request the chef to reduce the amount of sugar and salt."

"Amazing! Super authentic sushi, I’ve tried almost everywhere in London, and this place is my new favourite for sure. Sushi and sashimi is very fresh, they have uni, wagyu and less known fish cuts. "Tucked away in a basement on Strutton Ground, this tiny little establishment appears to be pretty authentic. Despite it being a random weekday evening, it fills up very quickly and by the time we’re heading up to leave, it’s pretty much full. We arrive a variety of elements to share and everything arrives promptly. The soft shell crab tempura is lightly battered, hot and fresh, but it does lack a certain wow factor. However, the selections of the different types of Sashimi we’ve gone for are all fresh and light and very clearly of the highest quality so we find ourselves ordering a few more of these to keep us going. The chicken gyoza is better than most other dumpligns I’ve tried, served warm with a very comforting and nourishing filling, they bulk out what is otherwise quite a light meal. Service is a little slow, with the size of the place, there’s only one girl busily running around trying to get to everyone, but the food is absolutely top notch. Worth going with a few more people and ordering up a larger selection!"

While all that they can eat is limited to 6 passages (unlimited repetitions) all 8 hot dishes (limited rounds), I must admit that the portions are fully equitable and we manage 3 passages 8 hot dishes between us 3. the sashimi was fresh and sushi was well maintained. "Probably one of the most disappointing Japanese meals I have ever had. Since I lived in Japan for 20 years, I know what good Japanese food is supposed to be like. The tori karaage almost had no chicken in it and was mostly skin, which I have never seen before. Is this a money-saving measure? Shockingly price at almost eight pounds. Their Japanese sausages while authentic were way too small and overpriced. If you still want to go to Tosa, I would suggest getting the nasu dengaku, which was quite good, and perhaps some yakitori (although this too is overpriced . But the most disappointing part of my Tosa experience started before I even went there. When I called to book a table, I was greeted in a rude manner by the Japanese lady who took my call. Moreover, this same woman was rude when I was in the restaurant. (If you must go to Tosa, talk to the other staff, who are much friendlier. One of the best things about going to a Japanese restaurant outside of Japan is to experience the great service that you would normally receive at many restaurants at Japan, so in this respect Tosa fell far short of my expectations. If you are in west London and have a hankering for Japanese food, go to Kiraku, where the service is far better, even though the menu may currently be less extensive."

"I visited twice this year to close it, which was very sad, as the guy there is great and the food he prepares is highest quality. a couple of counters and a small table explains why he is so busy with take-away food. try the spicy thun-fish dragon of only the freshly made sushimi (spelling, which is rugged in the ground, from raw fresh thun-fish so many places have only salmon or garnel. if they like me, they will travel miles to go there and it is a few hundred meters away, the good but pricier tomoe Japanese restaurant"

"The restaurant was nice and the food was good.However there was one waitress who was not very pleasant with us. I think her name was Maria Claudia.We arrived at the restaurant mins before our booking and asked if we could be seated earlier. There was a guard who told us to go in and choose a table, but I wanted to check with the waitress first. I asked Maria Claudia, and she said, without checking anything and in an impolite manner, that they have reservations and cannot seat us before our reserved time. Although, the restaurant was completely empty except for two tables.That didn't bother us since we knew our booking was still mins away, and there could actually be reservations before us. however, we sat exactly opposite the restaurant and we could see the whole restaurant and tables. We waited mins, and during that time only one or two tables were used and the rest were all empty.Nonetheless we went in at our reserved time. After looking at the menu we had few questions for the waitress, so we called Maria Claudia. She seemed on edge as if she really does not want to answer our questions, she kept looking away and rolling here eyes. We asked her about an item in the menu if it can be swapped for something else, she replied "No I don't think so, that's what's on the menu", so I asked her you don't think so or are you sure? She then said I don't think we can do it. So I politely asked her to check with the chef, she agreed but never came back to inform us.We were then served by two other waitresses who were both very professional and nice"

"We came here for our anniversary meal and it was not disappointed! We have the dragonboard and it was amazing. It has so much variety and we have been made so full and happy! "As a fairly regular Ukai customer I was very disappointed with my most recent visit. The service was stellar as usual but the food was terrible the worst I’ve ever had there. We ordered 2 lamb chops, one medium rare and one well done both of which came out looking pretty similarly cooked on a bed of dry wilted salad leaves which can’t have been wilted by the heat of the lamb chops because they were very cold. The sticky rice was warm and bland. The staff were very helpful and apologetic but after microwaving the lamb chops and bringing them back out they were just very dry and unimpressive. Although we were given a small discount at the end as this was birthday meal following me singing Ukai’s praises as one of my favourite bar/restaurants I was and still am very disappointed with my experience. We left feeling hungry after eating a meal and a starter. In addition to this we ordered a juice and one cocktail, which came to £95 with the discount seems pretty steep considering how little we actually ordered."
