"I have to say I was very surprised how bad my experience was with the Spice Merchant was. It started very badly with the food taking two hours to be delivered. This was after several calls over that period where we were told that the food was on its way and should be with us in five minutes. That was a bad start but the food was just as bad. The only saving grace were the starters of chicken lamb lollipops which were tasty. The main courses were all very disappointing, lacking spice and flavour. They were also swimming in oil. The breads were also flavourless. I don’t like to give reviews like this but in this case it is well deserved especially as it was extremely expensive. £150 for five people. For that kind of money it should have been allot better. Worst curry I have had I recent memory! Service: Delivery Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40"

"We dined as a group of eight on a Sunday to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow and the food was just average. There was only one other party of three in the restaurant at the same time, so I’m puzzled as to why everything took so long. "My boyfriend and I had dinner at Lovage on Valentine's Day and the food was fantastic, some of the best Indian food we've ever had. The service was fantastic for friendliness and efficiency. "I'm a sucker for the sizzle of tandoori on a hot serving plate so it was no surprise that as soon I saw a Chicken Tikka starter 3.70) coming out of the serving hatch, I'd be ordering the same myself. But for all the sizzle and smoke in New Jomuna (and there is a lot of smoke in the upper section where the food comes out) there wasn't much taste. The chicken was tender, the marinade was red, but alas that famous tandoori taste had left the building. Oh dear, I thought. It really takes an effort to persuade my friend who is sitting opposite me to come out for a curry not because he doesn't like it, it's just that his Indian wife of many years cooks a mean curry so it's a case of coals...read more"

"Booked an early curry (7.30pm) for myself and 2 friends. Restaurant decoration was good. Ambience was peaceful and not too noisy. We had poppadoms and a couple of drinks as starters and then had a main course each with three side dishes and a keema naan to share between us. The food was good and service was reasonably prompt. We enjoyed the evening and the food was good value and not overly expensive. The only negative part of the experience was the rather stern manner of one of the staff which didn't feel particularly welcoming. Having said that, everyone was perfectly polite and I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. The central location made it very accessible and easy to reach."

"the eating in koyla was excellent, but we got a table around the corner of other diners that did not atmosphere. the waitress brought us to another table in the main restaurant when you came free without so obviously looking at the opposite in which we sat to be less desirable. our drinks came fast and our order took. we then waited for an hour for our first cure to come and were absolutely hungry. this had a hit on the effect of eating our main course too late and we were last to leave the restaurant around 10.30, immediately arrived for our table around 7.30 it was a birthday party and koyla had been very recommended to me, so I felt disappointed by the management of our dining experience, which was at £99 for 2 courses and 3 drinks on the expensive side."
