"Very disappointed. I have Indian food regularly and this was one of the most tasteless ones I have had in a while. Maybe it was just a one off bad evening. The waiting staff OK but not over helpful asked for some tap water and it came 10 minutes later, replaced cutlery clumsily placed on table, not a smile in sight. Atmoshere in the room upstairs was non existent. And to top it all one has to pay Burford prices. Food: 1"

"I wish i had read the reviews sooner. When we walked in we were shooed to a table in the middle of the room despite us calling up and asking for a corner table. I have problems eating in the middle of a room. The young member of staff had an attitude problem. We felt rushed and was asked twice before I even made up my mind if we were ready. Now I dont take long but when someone is rushing you its hard to make up your mind. I felt intimidated. When I made my choice he muttered something in a foreign language that I couldn't understand. The whole experience was distressing and I felt an inconvenience to be there. The food was bland and the curry was watery and hardly any meat never mind the price. This is no way to treat a customer that wanted the night to be a special night with their partner. Definitely won't be going back. Stay clear unless u want to eat in fear."

"We used to rate the Taj highly. But not after our latest visit. In a nutshell, to save you reading further, the staff were disinterested and rarely left the counter. The manager took umbrage at being asked to replace a bad drink. And the food was neither tasty nor hot. We arrived at 6.30 and the place was empty. As the manager passed I pointed out that my bottle of Sparkling Water was totally flat. We said it was Sparkling because it said so on the label and I'd got what I ordered. He then said that I'd opened it and poured it so I'd accepted it. And it wasn't his fault that there were no bubbles. He said if we wanted to leave that was OK. It seemed that unhapppy customers leaving didn't faze him. However my bottle was grudgingly replaced with a good one. The staff, and manager, appeared to be completely disinterested in what they were doing. They just went through the motions. It was really odd. The menu hails the great Chef Abdul. It must have been his day off. Sauces from supermarket bottles are better than those we had. We all commented that our meals were neither tasty nor spicy. And not heat-hot. It pains me to write a damning review but this place needs a wake-up call. We'd love to see it get back to what it used to be."

"Since Kushi reopened after our takeaway has been even better than before!! Not sure why?? New Chef ? And for us it has always been consistently good each Friday night for over years ! "My boyfriend and I enjoyed a lovely meal here on Friday evening. The restaurant was busy and there was a good atmosphere. We wish we had known about the BYOB policy and would have taken some wine/beer along to accompany our meal! The portion sizes were just right and the food was cooked beautifully. My only criticisms are that the tables are really close together and staff members pushed by the back of my seat all night, which was annoying. We moved the table back to give us more room but had the restaurant been at full capacity we wouldn’t have been able to do this. Will definitely be back, but will be requesting a window seat next time!"

"loved our experience in the spice lounge! the menu has so much choice, all their standard curries they expect plus more I would never hear! poppadome and chutneys were some of the best I ever had, all our curries were delicious and different aromes, and the sides and the sharing plate were also great. service was very friendly and welcoming and we felt really relaxed. this will definitely make our regular curry house!"

"this restaurant was called shish mahal, then it was the seasoned room. it is now called the Indian grill. my friend anne and I have coveted this facility for the last twenty or so years. until the last visit it was guided by a...lovely guy; sammy, who could not be more attentive. at our last visit was another guy who drove the place. the kerl told us he had taken over the run of the place. he was absolutely without personality and his customer support consisted of: “They are the customer and I don’t care.” I had never praised to return, but anne loves her cormas, so we decided to eat there again. we were pleased to see that sammy had resumed his role as my host. if they like indian scrub, they treat themselves and give this place a try. eating is excellent, the staff very friendly and the prices are more, the fair."

"I ordered the mixed pakora for takeout and was disappointed. Half of the container was filled with vegetable filler instead of actual vegetable pakoras. The chicken was watery and tasted low quality, and the vegetable pakoras were small with only one mushroom pakora. Everything was limp and soggy, indicating that it was reheated in a microwave. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. Takeout service was rated at 4, with the meal costing between £10-20 per person. The food was rated at 1."

"Second time for Sunday Lunch, fantastic meal, Michelin star standard! The steaks were cooked to perfection, and sourced by a local butcher. Three of us all had steak Sunday lunch, served with succulent parsnips, carrots, crispy roast potatoes and think and luxury gravy. And for...a crazy £2 extra we had a serving of cauliflower cheese which was big enough for 3 of us to share. We actually wouldn't go anywhere else now for Sunday Lunch, next time we are going to try the Lamb Shank, or maybe the belly of pork. Highly recommended, just try, you will love it. Thanks to the chef, great job 5 star"
