"The Last Visit. Many moons ago we were big fans of the Battersea branch and frequent, and always satisfied, visitors. However, last night's experience at the larger Balham branch will be our last to either Gazette. In summary, the food continues to be lardy French and delicious but the service and whole experience left a bitter taste in the mouth. This place has set its stall out and for what you're paying, one would expect more. Booked table for 9.15, only to find that table was given away (without apology, just a we didn't know how long your wife was going to be even though they had been told a couple of mins). "Rhubarb is our go-to stopping point when visiting the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Set in the gorgeous Prestonfield House, even before you get to the beautifully decorated dining room, you are wandering around the beautifully landscaped gardens. Once inside, there is an a la carte menu of deliciousness, and during the Edinburgh Fringe, they have a three-course table d'hote menu, which never disappoints in terms of choice, value or quality. There are few restaurants we would return to time and time again, but Rhubarb is one we certainly will. "there are many great things about this restaurant and I'm not sure where to start. that is probably one of my best restaurants in Great Britain. not only eating is great, but also the architecture, the mood and service of this restaurant are simply excellent. each room has a very unique and beautiful furnishings. it was good that we decided to have a glass of wine in the first floor before we go to the dining room. it was right after the celebration of the East Bank, so I was told by a waiter that it was much more relaxed today. we then went into a dining room and got a place on the window. we could see beautiful nature with a beautiful ochsen. all waiters were friendly and welcoming. we had a cure for and we thought it was literally a bargain for such a great experience in the peculiar place and in it did a delicious meal. we will be here soon, hopefully we would like to stay in the hotel!"

"visited the hoose for Mother's Day meal, very first time.....have very impressed to say! after a mix with the book, the waitress found us a table above! liked the ambiente des ortes, with music games. the menu choices were excellent as the wein. after ordering Turkey/Ham roast, with circumcisions, the waiting time was definitely worth. our dinners came hot and very well cooked and the portions were very generous. I chose the strawberry cheesecake with two spoons as I was full. £18 for two courses was very reasonable, for quality and content! great scream for ross who looked around us, excellent service and a real nice guy! well recommended and we will visit again"

"This was the most disappointing tea experience we had in the UK. I wanted our last afternoon to be special and really do it up with a fancy afternoon tea experience to round out our vacation. After pouring over reviews and photos I settled on Prestonfield. We reached the rather remote location and were fairly quickly ushered upstairs to a lavishly, if not garishly, decorated room filled with sofas and tea tables. It was very dark and overstuffed with furniture. Being August, I had assumed we would be seated outside because of all the pictures I had seen online, but the weather was a bit iffy that day, so inside we were. There was a family slouched around one of the sofa sections as we entered which was not the upscale atmosphere I was looking for based on the price and location. We were seated in a corner with a loveseat and armchairs and 2 low tables. Our server was very attentive and explained everything in detail (except that the portions were massive) and we all ordered One tea each which turned out to be way too much food. The food itself was lackluster, but there was plenty of it. There were actual buckets of scones. I had the champagne add on for 15 pounds which was just a scant pour. We were also treated to another large family being seated right next to us with kids running around and playing videos on speakerphone. In short it was NOT the experience I had hoped a 50 pound tea would provide. If you decide to try it based on the glowing reviews here and on TripAdvisor, just be sure to determine where you will be seated (all the views are downstairs with the windows and light and there are actual tables to sit at). It did not look a thing like the pictures online. And don 't order more than one tea per person. You will be bagging up dry scones to go. Honestly I wouldn 't bother."

"I had booked an afternoon tea for a Christmas treat for my mum in advance as she has been coming here since the 70’s. The interior inside was lovely and Christmassy however there was no staff member to greet us on arrival and we where left waiting, where a staff member greeted a couple behind us and we where ignored, eventually someone came over and we got taken to our seat but the staff weren’t overly friendly. We got water quickly on arrival, however it took a while to get menus and our drinks. The food did come quickly and was delicious. The food can’t be faulted. Throughout the 2 hours we were there no staff members came to check on us and ask if we needed anything. The staff members seemed to be going to the ‘bigger’ tables and leaving out the smaller tables. My mum wanted a refill on her drink and we were waiting for about 20 minutes before we eventually got hold of a staff member. There was a wedding on so unsure if the staff were ran off their feet and prioritising the wedding. It then took around 30 minutes to eventually get the bill as there was no staff members around near the vicinity. On top of the poor service, I felt that there wasn’t much of an atmosphere in the hotel. I came away feeling disappointed, especially for the price paid. For the price I would expect better service but the food was excellent. I had also been at the Dome this week for afternoon tea and there was a much better atmosphere and better service there. I’ve been to Prestonfield House Hotel many times and never had service so poor. It has made me reconsider going back as I don’t believe it’s worth the money."
