"We had one night in Edinburgh to drop off our daughter at Uni. We met up with friends who were also dropping off their daughters and we were celebrating our girls’ success. The entrance to the restaurant, which was located below the hotel, was next to the open kitchen door and it appeared to be dirty. We had trouble choosing from the menu as many items were not available, but instead of informing us at the beginning, the waitress waited for us to order. For example, there was no whisky syrup to go with the haggis fritters, which the waitress said would be dry without it. My husband tried to order two different linguine dishes, but the kitchen had run out of linguine. The hand-cut double-cooked chips were substituted with skinny fries without informing us, and despite many vegetable options on the menu, the kitchen was out of all of them. In order to make up for the limited choices, my husband had sea bass fillets with potatoes cooked with chilli and ginger, sweet potato fries, and more potatoes with chilli and ginger. The only dessert available was ice cream. Overall, it was a disappointing experience."
