"Food was excellent, as always, both for myself and my partner (who is vegetarian). Beautifully cooked, fine dining, interesting dishes that certainly feel 'special ' and justify the price tag which is reassuringly expensive without being over-priced. The service really let the Marquis down on this occasion. We had booked night before we arrived via Open Table, got confirmation reminder, etc and yet when we arrived there was no note of our booking at the desk. Fortunately they had a table for 2, which is perhaps unusual for saturday night , so we did get to eat. Service was very pleasant but a bit chaotic, eg had to ask for bread after starters had been started, and then chase dessert when it didnt arrive for 20 min. The latter was exacerbated by the table next door being delivered their dessert within 1 min of ordering (after they had also moaned a little about being overlooked for a while), even though we had ordered the same dessert 15 min earlier (which arrived 5 min later)! Again the waiter was really, really, really apologetic, and if it had been a standard gastro-pub then i wouldnt even be mentioning this here, but as the service is part of the overall experience you are paying for with fine dining it took the edge off what was otherwise a really nice meal."
