"This was apparently a very old family run restaurant that was incredibly popular in its day. It’s in a fabulous location on the Strand, directly opposite the Savoy. Unfortunately, it now looks like it has been taken over and is being run by a relatively young team, who basically haven’t got a clue. They’re clearly riding on the coat-tails of what it used to be, but are just not cutting it. I’m pretty certain that I’m not the first person to come to this conclusion, as nearly every restaurant in the Covent Garden area is packed out for pre-theatre meals, but Salieri was suspiciously empty, with only three other tables occupied when we went in. The menu was hugely disappointing and not what I expected of a decent Italian restaurant. To give the staff their due, they try really hard (possibly too hard) to be polite and helpful, but what they’re offering is too feeble to match their enthusiasm. When my food arrived it turned out to be the most bland, tasteless, under-seasoned version of a pasta dish I have ever known. You would get more flavour out of a 99p microwave “ping dinner” from a supermarket. In the time we were sat there, lots of passers by were obviously looking for somewhere to eat and stopped to consult the menu. Every couple or group looked at each other and shrugged indifferently and walked on. Not one single person came in. I found myself wishing I’d also looked at the menu before walking in, but didn’t as I was led to believe it was the wonderful family run restaurant it used to be. Given that the staff are welcoming and enthusiastic, this place needs to sack the chef and replace him/her with someone who knows how to cook basic pasta dishes and can bring a creative update to the horrendous menu. Until that happens, I’m afraid I wouldn’t touch it again with the proverbial barge pole."

"Firstly I want to say that I am a VERY frequent customer of this place. This is the first time writing a review as I was absolutely APPALLED by the service. Not only were they judgmental and rude, but quite frankly horrible. They interrupted our dining multiple times to tell us certain drinks were not included in the hotpot menu. We knew that, I even said that we know when we got them at the bar. To send over TWO ADDITIONAL staff one after the other, after I 've already said I know and am happy to pay is ridiculous. We were trying to enjoy a family meal and condescendingly telling us that certain drinks aren 't free is disrespectful! I have never, not once, needed to exchange my empty cans for new drinks when dining. No other group had to do this, in fact they brought their drinks over to them! How absurd to make us prove we 've drunk them? I 'm paying for it anyways! And once again, to Interrupt our dining to tell us we can 't have anymore unless they receive empty cans is disgusting customer service. You need to be better! I can 't believe after almost 4 years of dining here that the customer service has gotten SHOCKINGLY LOW! My poor sister was upset the entire time, saying she felt like we were being judged! It made the whole meal soured! I was hoping to introduce them to something I love but I will not make that mistake again! For £30 each I expected better customer service! I get treated better at a McDonald 's! Admittedly, the food was great but they forgot 3 items on our hotpot order. They also judge us and gave us plates and forks... for SOUP! Had to ask twice for bowls and chopsticks! If you 're happy with terrible customer service, being judged like you 're going to dine and dash but good food, then sure I 'd recommend! "You can find The Sister restaurant on Kelvingrove Street up the steepest stairs in Glasgow thank goodness I wore reasonably low heels : As the dining room was absolutely packed I never took any pictures, I don't really like to get in people's face too much with my camera. The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines! linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon."

"I was bought an Activity Superstore voucher for my birthday which gave me an Afternoon tea for two people. We spent the day in Chester prior to going to the hotel and wished we hadn 't bothered. Upon arrival the hotel didn 't look appealing and when we were greeted at reception we were made to feel that the booking had been forgotten about. We were asked to take a seat whilst the reception team member found someone to seat us. We were seated in what can only be called a green house with no ventilation air. We were offered tea or coffee and were told to take a seat. The curtains and table clothes were dirty, the furniture tatty and we felt like we needed a shower when we left. After around 10 minutes, the drinks arrived and we took it upon ourselves to move to a table in the shade. The air conditioning wasn 't working and it was 30 degrees outside. To be fair, the air conditioning looked like it hadn 't been serviced or used in quite some time (my husband works in the HVAC industry) Our food arrived and my heart sank. We weren 't asked or told what the sandwiches included or what the cakes were. The sandwiches were dry, tasteless and half of the crusts remained. We only ate a couple and left the rest. The cakes were okay although what we think might have been a profiterole looking more like a sausage!! The scones were crunchy and we were offered no butter as an option. At no point did anyone ask if we would like another drink (hot or cold) or whether the food was okay. We were in the hotel around 30 minutes before we left very disappointed. Certainly not a place I would recommend or return to."
