"I’ve been in a Japanese sort of mood recently and have visited a few places around town, but sometimes your old reliable sushi haunt is still the best. For me, that’s a small neighbourhood restaurant right next to Bermondsey underground station, an odd place for a sushi joint but nonetheless a good one. Enter Poppy Hana The interior is red and black and atmospheric and makes even going to a neighbourhood joint feel special. "We visited this restaurant during our time in Norwich after hearing great things about the food. We were not disappointed. The menu was amazing, with a wide variety of options from small sushi selections to bento boxes. Every dish we tried tasted perfect and was beautifully presented with artistic flair. The staff were welcoming and friendly, happy to explain dishes and offer suggestions. The decor was simple and clean, and the selection of wines and sakes was decent. "Once seated, we placed our order promptly as we were quite hungry. Unfortunately, we waited for over an hour for our food to arrive, all the while having to repeatedly request water which was often ignored. We had a young child with us who is sensitive to black pepper, and we specifically asked for the dish to be prepared without it. However, our request was disregarded, and when the dish was served to the child, she had a terrible reaction. When we brought this issue to the server's attention, there was a lack of apology and accommodation. To make matters worse, a service charge was added to the bill without our consent. When we asked for it to be removed, the staff did so without inquiring about our concerns. Overall, our experience at this restaurant was simply dreadful."
