"Four people for an evening meal at 7 pm. We were told our table would be ready in 45 minutes so went and had a drink in a nearby pub. Went back and was seated downstairs. We had to take off our shoes which wasn't a problem as we have been to Japan before and knew that was a normal procedure. It took a long time for the waiter to ask if we would like a drink then a long time to bring it (only 3 drinks came). It then took a long time to get the 4th drink and order our food. We had to ask for everything, to order drinks, to order food, to ask for the dessert menu. Everything seemed like it was too much trouble for them. We then asked for the bill, the waiter then stood immediately behind us waiting to be paid! I asked him to leave us alone for a few minutes while we checked everything was correct but he just moved slightly to the side....just so rude. We never experienced rudeness like this on our travels around Japan. Food was ok, very expensive and just awful rude staff and service.....Never again!"

"Really wonderful food presented beautifully Great atmosphere although a little noisy for hearing the details of all the dishes! Would have liked some more hot drink options for end of the meal and a choice of deserts on the set menu or mini ones of a a few of them in an ideal world but the savoury courses were amazing. While waiting for our food they gave us a cup of soup, bread and breadsticks; we made a bit of mess with the crumbs but the waiters came and cleared it with this metal crumb remover fancy). Starter: TAGLIOLINI WITH SLOW COOKED TOMATO FROM GRANANO AND SHEEP RICOTTA Main: TONNARELLI WITH VEAL RAGOUT This didnt look the best but tasted fantastic Desert: TIRAMISU no complaints at all, you have to try this!!!! I would definitely go here again this is the best service I have received so far! I was definitely full when I left. They try to make sure the food is as fresh as possible. They had a display of all the vegetables and fish; the colours were amazing. The restaurant is beautiful inside there are trees in big plant pots, sky lights and candle chandeliers. Getting the set lunch menu meant it was really quiet when we went I believe it gets quite busy in the evenings. Also Drake was dining in the private dining room next to us! "Really disappointing we used to be regulars pre pandemic, first time back and it seems much has changed. Maybe they were having an off night but the tempura was soaked in oil, they did change it but the new dish came back the same, dripping. The rolls were fine but nothing blew us away like it used to. The atmosphere was different, I don’t know if it’s changed ownership but where we used to come out of this place buzzing, it was just flat and the staff just seemed so indifferent. The other thing that really ruined the atmosphere are all the delivery drivers who stand outside impatiently pressing the buzzer and looking through the window the same window we and our friend were seated at. I did food deliveries during the pandemic and was always respectful of diners when in dining came back I always made sure the staff knew I was there then would wait discreetly… Maguro really need to have some system in place so the drivers don’t gang up around the entrances, it completely ruins the experience from the moment you arrive and have to push past the drivers to get into the restaurant! So disappointing and I’m not sure we’d come back to dine in."

"We are just loving this place. Our third visit and we keep coming back for more. In our opinion it is the best place in London right now to get japanese food and believe me we have been to quite a few japanese restaurants. Fabulous food, well cooked and seasoned, extensive menu and the staff could not be more helpful and attentive. We had two orders of edamme as appetisers then moved on to duck chicken gyoza. So difficult to stop eating these delightful dumplings but we forced ourselves and moved onto chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki. Both were absolutely delicious. We finished with creamy chocolate and coffee cocktails. Coupled with heavenly Miles Davis on the airwaves we left walking on air and are currently planning our next visit. With the 50% off we paid £19.60 for the whole meal. Incredible value"

"Every time I have been here there is always something wrong, food great and senior staff members seem perfect, when sitting in and eating ordered a drink and a main dish, only drink arrived and didn’t order the main for us, we were in a bit of a rush so had to leave. Then when I ordered online for collection, someone had taken the ticket off and just left it next to the register which was rather annoying as I had to wait a while due to a busy Saturday. Food is excellent, 10/10 recommend, just a bit of a pain to go out for a meal and have to chase someone for your food. They were very kind about delaying my collection and gave me a larger drink."

"We had a Japanese friend staying with us who had not had a Japanese meal in England before. We decided to try this Japanese restaurant as a takeaway and ordered several dishes. Our friend rated the meal overall as a 6 out of 10. I...would agree with her. The dishes were cooked to the Western palate and had a little too much sugar added making the fried udon, teriyaki chicken and fried aubergine all too sweet for the Asian palate. However, we will still visit the restaurant in future. We will make a point to request the chef to reduce the amount of sugar and salt."

"It’s not the first time I have problems with this place. They keep sending food that have ingredients that are not specified on the menu. I am allergic to dairy and more than one occasion they sent sushis containing dairy to me. Last time I...ordered this it happened too and after a lot of arguments they sent again my order so when it got to my home we received unripe avocado sushi’s. Veggie and meat option mixed together. One word: disgusting. Don’t bother eating there"

"I do not recommend this restaurant! The menu looked nice, but each dish had 2 prices side by side. We asked for the regular mains, and then asked for some garlic bread as a starter to have whilst we waited for our mains. As we finished the starter, the waiter came and took the empty plates away and said that now he was going to request the mains and the wait would be another 15-20 minutes. When the mains finally arrived, the portions were extremely small and there was really only pasta! At this point, we decided to go elsewhere for desert and asked for the bill. All the mains were priced at the large portions rate and there was the usual 12,5% service charge. We spoke with the person who came to take the payment and explained that we wouldn't pay the service charge as we were not pleased with the overall service and especially the main dishes. The waiter simply said Ok' in an unhappy way, took the payment and went away. Overall, the staff are not friendly and the service and food does not meet the standard set by the price charged!"

"I visited this restaurant based on the very good reviews. The older male waiter with the short hair was so rude! We kindly asked if we could be seated on another table as the restaurant was empty but had us seated besides the staff table and another couple during covid19. He responded you are 2, not 6. We didn 't complain that we wanted a bigger table, just another table to be more socially distanced. Funnily enough there were 2 women seated on a table for 6 so I 'm not sure why he let them sit on a table for 6 but wouldn 't allow this same treatment for us. We told him this wasn 't an issue and we would stay seated. He then complained to another staff that we wanted another table. She kindly offered us another table but once again we assured him that we were fine with where we were seated. He continued to speak to us rudely throughout the evening. We spent £100 and spent less than 40 minutes in the restaurant because of how uncomfortable this waiter made us feel. Food was decent but the wagyu beef was overpriced and what tasted like cheap meat would rather spend £50+ on a good steak somewhere. The grilled eel was lovely and can 't be faulted. If you want good Japanese food there are plenty of good spots in the Soho area. This restaurant wasn 't busy on a Saturday evening but we still had the most appalling service."

"I used to be a loyal patron, but I was quite disappointed when I paid £9 for a rice dish that only had 2 prawns. It felt like I could have easily prepared it at home for much less. I mentioned my concerns when I ordered 3 dishes, specifically asking for a decent amount of prawns, and I was assured they would meet my request. Unfortunately, they didn 't follow through on their promise. My daughters and I used to frequent this place, but this experience has led us to reconsider our choice. I understand your concern, and I appreciate your apology for not meeting the expected standard in your prawn dishes. It 's reassuring to know that your prawn dishes should include 4 king prawns, and it may have been an unintentional mistake. However, I won 't email you to resolve this issue. I 've experienced this problem multiple times, with the most recent occurrence just a few days ago when my daughter and I ordered the same dish, and the prawns were once again insufficient. While one mistake can be forgiven, a total of 5 incorrect dishes within a week suggests a recurring issue. We value our hard-earned money just as much as you do, and we hope for better experiences in the future. This experience has left us with no choice but to say, NEVER AGAIN."

"We went after their great renovation and the ambience is good for one night in a quiet yet lively restaurant. However, given the situation not central London compared to all other many other Japanese restaurants I was, the prices are too high. I pay less for everything in an authentic Japanese restaurant in central locations. Sushi quality is great with thick and fresh cuts and good decoration and good selection of menu for the size of the kitchen. A dish that I do not enjoy was my favorite grilled egg on rice, the size of the aal was 1/3 of the normal size for the price of £18, as the aal prices have decreased little in recent years. For this reason I gave 2 star of 5 for value. If you are looking for great sushi in Kentish Town, there is no other place, so I recommend if you are a local Japanese fan."
