"My partner and I regularly enjoy going out for Sunday lunch, but yesterday at the White Horse and Griffin we experienced the worst Sunday lunch we've ever had. We ordered a bottle of red wine and two beef roasts. We had to wait almost 40 minutes for our roasts which was frustrating as we had been asked to give the table back at 2pm. Once we did finally receive our meals, the food was clearly well below an acceptable standard. The texture of the beef was mushy and horrible by far the worst beef I have ever tasted. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt, and the vegetables were bland and tasteless. To add insult to injury, they have the cheek to charge £18 for this disgusting meal. In Yorkshire this should be considered a criminal offence it really was that bad. I feel like we have been ripped off. At 1:40pm we still had half a bottle of wine to drink but the waitress (who was apologetic) asked me to pay the bill now, as the guests who booked our table for 2pm had just arrived. While I was shocked, (as I hadn't finished my wine) I paid the bill there and then. However, I was still going to sit here and finish my wine, as I booked the table until 2pm. At 1:50pm the manager came to our table, and demanded that we leave the table because the guests who booked the table for 2pm were already here. I have never experienced such unbelievably rude service (especially in Yorkshire), and this left us with a really nasty experience. I still hadn't finished my wine, so I slowly drank my drink, and left the table at precisely 2pm. I'm not putting up with such rude nonsense and I encourage anyone that experiences similar levels of rude service to stand your ground. Such rude service should not be tolerated. Overall this was a terrible experience, and definitely the worst Sunday lunch we've ever had. I recommend others to stay well away from this place, and go somewhere else in Whitby for Sunday lunch where at least you can be guaranteed a more friendly service."
