"Being local to the Peterborough area, we have eaten in the bar a few times. There is not alot of variety on the menu but the food is nice. It is very expensive for what you get, i had the avecado chicken burger which was about £15... we also ordered some sharing starters such as nachos and some desserts. One of the staff members I would like to mention is Anna P, she was very chatty and attentive. Especially helpful when deciding what to choose from the menu. There is a choice of seating available in the bar and restaurant, such as sofas and chairs. Lovely ambience and feel to the place. Cutlary is always clean and in my books, thats always a plus!"

"If you're in search of a spot to find super healthy, organic, and vegan food, then this little café is the place to be. Located in the Grassmarket, directly under the DanceBase, the refrigerators are stocked with salads, quinoa, sweet bowls, smoothies, health dishes, juices, and more. The space is small with only 3 tables that can accommodate up to 10 people, but it's popular for midday takeaways. I initially stopped in for a coffee with almond milk, soy, or coconut milk alternative, but I overheard that they were serving a peanut curry for lunch. I must say, the peanut curry with brown rice was fantastic. It was filling, hearty, and healthy. The carrots and chickpeas in the curry were flavorful, and the rice had a rich nutty taste. It was the perfect meal for a rainy day in Edinburgh. While it may be a bit pricey, the quality of the food makes it worth it."

"We booked this restaurant through open table and was disappointed overall. The menu was not the same menu as shown through open table, it was extremely limited. However our party settled on the panko coated aubergine salad, the Cajun burger and the banyan currizza. The salad was enjoyable, the burgers Cajun coating was soggy and the currizza, which came with one of the curries of the day on top of a naan bread and melted mozzarella was cold. We notified one of two members of staff at front of house and this was dealt with straight away and very professionally. The rest of the party had finished eating by the time my dish was returned but it was kindly removed from the bill at the end. For this I would probably return, although it's more of a brunch time place, don't be swayed by the online menu."

"Not sure we just went on a free day, but absolutely one of the worse culinary experiences I probably had. The menu was completely different from the one online and I don't even know where to start serving staff that was incredibly unhelpful, my chicken wasn't even edible black on the outside and dry inside that had to be sent back"

"My reservation didn't seem to be on the books, as we were seated without any record of our table. I had called OpenTable for confirmation beforehand. The starters were quite good, but that was the highlight of the meal. The main courses were frankly terrible, and considering the prices, I expected much better. While most of the waitstaff were nice and professional, I can't recommend this place based on the overall experience."

"We made an unexpected visit on a late Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had. The chilled artsy décor created a great vibe, and the dining experience was enjoyable, even though the menu was somewhat limited. The bar staff crafted delightful cocktails from the menu. The service was exceptional, particularly from David, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and made our friend's birthday feel special. We will definitely be back!"

"I was a little concerned when I booked that there might be some reason that Recess was the only restaurant in town that wasn't fully booked on the first Saturday evening after the end of lockdown—but I needn't have worried. The outdoor dining area was surprisingly quiet compared to the all the harbourside bar terraces, but the staff were excellent—kind, attentive and fully masked; the tables were thoroughly cleaned between guests; the cutlery arrived in sealed paper bags; and the server was careful not to touch our plates. Oh, and the food—we had burgers and sticky toffee pudding for dessert—was great. The only possible complaint would be that the hotel-bar prices on the menu make it not the best value to be had in town—but really: both the food and service were good enough that the cost actually seems pretty reasonable."
