"We booked very last minute a table for a Saturday night at this restaurant and got the last one. It is a small restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look like much but once you are inside you are transported to a fine little gem which is intimate and very French with tasteful table settings and all round decor.Considering there were only two staff waiting tables, they were very well synchronised and everyone's needs attended to without you even having to ask. They have to receive special mention for their efficiency. There are three set menus - fish, meat or fois gras. All priced extremely reasonable. The a la carte menu is primarily all the items from these menus with one or two additions for variation. I opted for the meat menu whilst my husband opted for a la carte. My starter of ravioli with snails was delish - soft snails and ravioli soaked in a delicious wild garlic sauce. My husband had the poached oysters with fois gras which may sound odd but as a lover of both, he was in heaven. The champagne granita which followed was welcomed to cleanse the palates especially mine after the wild garlic. For main I had the crusted lamb cooked to perfection on a bed of crushed chickpeas hinting at the spices of North Africa. My husband had the beef rossini which he said was the best beef he ever had surpassing even Waygu. And his potato galette was buttery and crispy. I was a bit jealous. My husband passed on dessert but I had mine which came part of the menu and was one of the best desserts I have ever had.Wine choice of a 2014 Crozes Hermitage was the cherry on the cake!We have eaten and travelled to many fine restaurants around Europe and have paid top whack at many of them so our bill at the end of the night was a happy surprise considering the service, location, ambiance and food. Our visit to the Auberge Napoleon is certainly going to sit up there with some of our best foodie memories. Why? Because it is what it is and doesn't fuss around with edible flowers, smokes or foams etc which seems to be the fashion these days. The ingredients on the plates are allowed to speak for themselves and are of quality and cooked sympathetically so there is nowhere for the chef to hide. Do go - you won't regret."
