"We had a very good time at lunch Sunday at the end of March, without prior reservation. Arrived a little by chance and attracted to the reputation of the Logis de France. Very good reception. A generous and delicious plate. Careful service. Brouillade with truffles (a salty hair to my taste but I almost never sell), pigeon in two remarkable ways, tray of refined and varied cheeses, dessert with surprising citrus fruit: a marriage of traditions and modernity. Well recommended local wine. Cherry on the cake: the almost complete piece was not noisy. An enchanted clientele. Like us. A very nice place where we will gladly return a very correct addition given the quality of the kitchen and the service."

"This had been recommended to us as the best place in Argentat for us to treat our friend to a birthday lunch. It wasn 't. A peremptory 'welcome ' in which we were warned not to fall down the step en route to the toilets did not bode well. Service was 'off hand ' but we were told quite vociferously how good the menu items were. The foie gras 'maison '? was good but poorly presented. The veal was very ordinary but accompanied by a sloppy mess of poor quality canned macedoine of vegetables. Our friend, and my wife, both chose the 'duo de poisson ' which wasn 't duo as they only had one type of fish. The pichet of wine was only just drinkable. The worst meal, and one of the most expensive, I 've ever had in France. One good point the toilets are impressive. Obviously the proprietors care more about the evacuation of their cuisine than its input!"

"This is the first time we visited the Auberge at lunch time, and in the run up to the high season. We ate out on the terrace, with a lovely view over the Dordogne river. It has to be on of the best situated places in town. Since the new owners opened a couple of months ago, there have been some (very sensible) changes. They have another chef in the kitchen to help out, and two new wait staff. At the same time there have been some things that haven't changed. The same warm and smiling welcome and a choice of dishes based on good homely cooking at a reasonable price. There is no set price menu (as before), so we ordered from the small à la carte list shown on a blackboard. I had veal confit (slow cooked) and my wife some Sandre (fresh water fish known as Pike-Perch or Zander in English). Both came quickly, and were perfectly cooked with a tasty garnish of vegetables. We had a glass of dry white (the waitress's suggestion) as an apéritif and to drink with the meal. Pleasant. To follow, a very nice creme brulee, not perfect, as there was perhaps a little too much sugar on top, but that's being very fussy. We'd certainly order it again. We were very tempted by quite a few of the excellent sorbets on offer, but couldn't resist the burnt cream. All in all a very nice, relaxed meal. We are lucky to have it at easy walking distance from our home."
