"I booked a meal for two on 22nd Dec. We were handed a Xmas menu . I asked if there was another menu available to be told no. On the plus side the menu looked good so we decided to go ahead. My wife ordered melon followed by salmon main course which she said was very nice. I had prawn starter with a thin sauce which I thought was poor. Main course was a tough sirloin of beef and tough Yorkshire pudding. Soggy roast potatoes and well cooked veg. We ordered a bottle of wine which was left on the table unopened. I complained about my meal and the mediocre service went downhill from that moment. We had the small cheeseboard and were asked if we wanted the bill. We pointed out that we hadn`t had our tea/coffee which was included in the menu. While drinking our tea/coffee we were again asked if we wanted the bill. To add insult to injury an additional charge was added to the bill for tea and coffee when in fact it was already part of the £80. cost of two meals and a bottle of wine. I pointed out the error on the bill and the reply was I`ll double check! . First and last visit!."

Stayed here one night and would return again. Staff could not have been more helpful. Excellent breakfast.

Dined in the restaurants twice during our stay in Haltwistle. The price/quality ratio is very good. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. The service was also ok.

This is not only the center of Britain, but the center of town. I get the feeling they change the menu frequently. The food seemed fresh, and well prepared. Delicious and some unique desserts.

The food was lovely I had a soup to start that was to die for. I had steak as my main and they had no steak knives, minor I know but weird as if you serve steak you should have steak knives. All in all the food was nice and the service was ok. Don't be expecting great service as staff seem lovely but undertrained in hotel service!

Couldn't fault anything we had, there was six of us and we all had steaks 5 medium cooked one well done and that's exactly what we got absolutely delicious. Stayed for two nights so I could explore Hadrian 's Wall. Room was big and comfortable, mattress a bit too soft for me. Breakfast was great I had a full English. I ate in the restaurant in the evenings as there was practically nowhere else to eat. The food was a fixed price menu only and I can only describe it as 'odd '. The same vegetables were served regardless of the main course eg with scampi you had roast potatoes etc the same as if you had the chicken or lamb.

Well what can one say? From the moment you arrive you receive the warmest of welcomes. We were shown to our family suites (rooms C and room 5). The decor is beautiful and in keeping with the history of the building. A well needed luxurious jacuzzi bath after a very long walk along Hadrian’s wall and a very near perfect sleep in the Egyptian cotton bedding was most welcome after two nights camping. The breakfast was outstanding and the care and attention received from Grethe was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and myself, my sister and 6 children absolutely loved our stay and look forward to returning next year!
