"How this place managed to gather numerous positive reviews on different sites remains a miracle. I can only assume that a majority of people simply don't know the difference between good food and bad any more, due to lack of education. There are simple places offering over-the counter food which are good or even great, all over the world. This is not one of them.We had a sample plate, featuring most of their products. To start with, the salad was flat. Iceberg, tomato, cucumber, plus plain yoghurt with no spices at all.The veggies had been deep fried at some remote point in the past, in veteran oil. Now they were put in the microwave for 5 minutes and BANG, on your plate. They tasted accordingly. The hummus looked ok, but even with a lot of effort not even a hint of tahin or chick peas, no trace of lemon could be detected, just nada. Utterly tasteless. The kafta were hard as stone, with an oily aftertaste again, just like falafel, and the chicken "shwarma" was revolting. Now in theory, I do know that these places don't serve organic meat, but at El-Rief you could really taste the abominable conditions of chicken breeding. Thank you for opening my eyes. The guys serving the food couldn't have cared less; the hygiene situation was questionable. The tea, at least, was ok.Life's too short for cheap junk food, and that's exactly what you get here."
