"Received Pato’s email featuring the new additions to menu so decided to give Pato Lounge in Orpington another visit as recently we felt it was very disappointing both in the food and staff. So disappointing still! A new menu didn’t change the usual uncleared tables on entering. This was just before 4pm today, Tuesday 10th October. At the bar, I asked for a glass of red wine, a Merlot but told it was out of stock. Decided on a glass of Malbec. This was sloshed into a glass and I had to ask for a napkin (none on the bar) to mop it up from the rim and base of the glass and returned to my table only to see the glass not only ‘dishwasher stained’ but coated in lipstick really ? At £7 a glass????? Food was served by the only floor staff member (who was really pleasant) whilst the rest of the staff, including the barman, sat together noisily chatting at the rear of the restaurant. On going into the ladies toilet, there was no toilet paper in cubicle 2. This was at 5pm and although being assured “the lavatories are checked regularly” no check had taken place since 10am 7 hours previous !!!! Really???? This is not regular in my opinion. The final straw was a man and small child arrived and whilst the man was so busy on his mobile, the child was climbing over the threshold from the restaurant and onto the patio, then allowed to race around the restaurant on his bike!!!! There are too many issues in this one and final visit. This makes me sad that there are too many hygiene, health and safety, and training issues to ever consider returning such a shame. "My husband and I booked Xian for a Friday evening, just the two of us. The place was pleasantly busy but not overly crowded and we had a small table close to the rear of the restaurant. Our drinks were ordered straight away and the table already had prawn crackers to nibble on while you chose your meal. We were pleasantly surprised to be given glasses of iced water as well as our chosen drinks. The water was topped up over the duration of the evening as well. We chose a set meal C, and on asking for a substitution for one of the dishes, that wasn’t seen as a problem to change it. The mixed starters of prawn toast, ribs, spring rolls and satay chicken skewers were tasty and were served with two sauces and a finger bowl for any messy digits. The meal included crispy duck as a second starter with more than enough meat for the six pancakes that came with it. Service of the mains was prompt and hot and we found more than a match for our eventual stuffed bellies. To finish, we ordered a jasmine tea each which came in a pot with more than enough for several refills. The service was very attentive with drink re-orders timely offered and quick table service of your food but not feeling rushed or pushed out. The restaurant manager/host was a really friendly soul to all over the evening and he even offered us a free drink after having paid our bill. My husband accepted the brandy offered but I, being the night’s chauffeur, sadly, had to decline but a very nice touch on his part. The service was excellent and the food very good. Tonight was our first visit but will certainly not be our last."
