"Walking down from the summit of Castle Hill toward the Old Port, we had one thing on our agenda — food. We had been on the go since mid-morning and it was already approaching 3 p.m. without lunch. So we stopped at Le Kaloupile, the first restaurant we saw at the bottom of the hill. Once we sat at a table between the sidewalk and a busy road with menus in hand, we realized this would be a first for us, Reunion Island food. I didn’t even know where to find Reunion Island. (A part of France, it sits in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. Our friendly, upbeat server spoke extremely limited English, but we managed to communicate well. I ordered vegetable samosas and my husband opted for curried chicken with rice. The delicious samosas came filled with flavor and had a nice consistency. Two dips came with them, one spicy and the other mild. My husband wolfed down the chicken, praising its taste and presentation in a cast-iron dish. We both enjoyed the water view in the distance. But the warm December afternoon became increasingly cooler so we went inside to use the restroom and pay the bill. Warmth embraced us there. Customers still sat at about four tables in the relatively small room. Bright, colorful paintings decorated the walls with scenes that reflected island life. The restroom proved to be immaculate."

We had dinner with a friend in this restaurant which offers specialties from the Reunion island. We tried the ti punch which was good and the « rougai » with sausages which was also excellent. Service was friendly too. Prices are reasonable. The menu at 25€ is worth it. All in all we had an enjoyable experience.

I am from the island of Dominique in the Caribbean but live in France. I have been craving creole dishes so we decided to visit nice especially to dine creole. We choice this restaurant and I was not disappointed. The dishes.... simple yet delicious took me on a journey back home. And the punch coco!! I had two. We began with the acra which was so fresh, soft on the inside yet slightly crunchy and brown on the outside and spicy as well! My son then ordered the sausage (but it was not spicy, he at 6yrs old loves spicy food so he added the spicy sauce provided), my husband had the fish and red beans (red string beans)but said it was not so flavorful (personally I think it was ok... not super...
