"We stayed here by chance after discovering Dunster after a road diversion. And what a lucky discovery it was. Dunster is full of history and almost stuck in time. There are lots of craft and local independent shops on the high street. The tourist information office is full of details of local events and walks. There are also guided walks every other Wednesday. The Luttrell Arms exceeded all expectations. Dated back to the 15th century, and retaining many old features, the bar and lounges are comfortable with a great atmosphere. We were here mid week and there were always other guests around, highlighting its popularity. The lounge included a library of locally inspired books which were interesting to flick through. Perhaps the gem is the secret garden which is huge! Plenty of seating and pods, with it 's own outside bar. Our room was light, airy and spacious. the bathroom exceptionally clean and well equipped. The individual terrace was a bonus given the weather was actually fine during our stay. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, country prints adorn the walls throughout the hotel all telling a tale of times gone by. The food was especially good. The menu including multiple dishes that made choosing just one difficult! We had steak, which was cooked perfectly and the ploughman 's at lunchtime was plentiful with the best onion marmalade ever! Perhaps the best feature of this hotel though is the staff. All happy, friendly and extremely efficient, they made guests feel at ease and very welcome. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We will definitely be back, without a doubt. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

We had three meals here during our stay in Dunster. Every time we had excellent service and lovely food at a reasonable price. The restaurant was full of character and a good atmosphere.

Superb location, cosy comfy area where we ate dinner with a dog, service excellent, staff helpful, Food delicious freshly cooked. only qualm would be no signal to pay bill at table. Although Wi-Fi worked where we ate.

This hotel has terrific grounds and the rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped. But it’s the staff that give this place its real greatness. The food was great too! An excellent property all around that will see us again!

A lovely old hotel with a great atmosphere. We very much enjoyed our meals during our recent visit to Dunster. Very pleasant staff who made sure we were well looked after. Lots of nooks and crannies and also a lovely garden to explore. We will be back.

We had an average lunch and spent the entire day at the restaurant, which was okay. When we were given dinner menus and ordered a bottle of wine, we were informed that we couldn't order food for an hour, despite the pub being empty. They couldn't provide an estimate for when we could order after that. The manager was completely incompetent.

I stayed at this restaurant for their Sunday Sleepover deal. The food was amazing, the room was impeccably clean and very comfortable, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, my short stay didn't allow me to fully experience all the hotel's great amenities. I would definitely consider staying here again for a quick getaway at any time of the year.

We called in on a Sunday lunchtime with our Border Collie and luckily they were able to squeeze us in, as it was very busy. We sat in a beautiful bar room and enjoyed a drink before tucking in to an excellent roast beef dinner. There were plenty of staff on duty and we received excellent service. We look forward to a return visit next time we are in the area.

The Luttrell Arms has always been known as the upscale hotel bar and restaurant in Dunster, a picturesque village on Exmoor. As long-time residents of the village, we are the perfect target clientele. Unfortunately, like many establishments in the West Country, the hotel has faced challenges due to staff shortages caused by Covid. However, the new manager, who is from the Antipodes, has been a disappointment. We found it ridiculous when we were told that we couldn't choose a time to eat until the kitchen allowed, especially when the restaurant was only 75% empty. The manager is in desperate need of customer service training or maybe should be sent back down under!

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
