"Once again, the service was slow. I decided to try the midweek roast for £6, as I had eaten here a few times before. I booked for 6:30pm, but my daughter tried to book at the same time and was told it was too busy, so they could only do 5:45pm. When we arrived at 6:15pm, the restaurant was not very full, with only a table of about 12 - half of which were children, my daughter's family of four, one single male, and about 10 empty tables. It seems they struggle to handle a busy dinner service, and I can only imagine the revenue they are missing out on. Our dinner was not served until 7:20pm, after a 50-minute wait, and the portion sizes were small. We all left feeling hungry. I have tried to support this pub as it is local, but I will not be returning for food."

As always, the Sunday carvery at this restaurant is wonderful. There is plenty of meat for the price, making it a great value. This is definitely a regular spot for Steve and his friends. Thank you! View menu

This pub is a wonderful spot for lunch. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food is delicious. My stepfather couldn't stop praising the freshly made gravy. I ordered the chicken wrap with chunky chips which was absolutely delicious. My mother had the scampi and we couldn't find a single fault with it. View menu

Took my mum for Mother’s Day lunch first time eating here and will definitely go back .The roast dinner was as good as you get at home ,eaten several roast dinners in other restaurants and veg is always hard or the meat is chewy but this meal was 10/10 and even had a free desert and chocolate gift Great service too from Fyn Jo and Karen well done

Atmosphere Hostile (staff) Food Bland and unpleasant Venue Not great Went here with friends and was actually embarrassed I had suggested the place. I don't know who does the cooking but would suspect it may be where the chef from Fawlty Towers found employment. My 12 year old daughter can cook and present food better than here. Service was certainly with a sneer and if we had the time we would have gone somewhere else. A lot of pubs are closing down this place may be an example of why avoid!

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
