"After finishing our meal, we expected to be offered the dessert menu and another round of drinks. Unfortunately, no one came to our table and all attention seemed to be focused on the bar, despite it not being busy. Even when a group of three arrived, we were overlooked and not offered any further service. In the end, we had to go to the bar to request the bill, which was given to us promptly. However, we had to wait to pay and ultimately had to do so at the bar. Overall, we left feeling hungry and disappointed. The pub had a grubby atmosphere with a few dead flies and webs on the window. It was also very dusty and in need of a thorough cleaning. While it may be cozy at night with a fire going, it looked sad and shabby in the mid-afternoon. Just because it is located in the countryside, there is no excuse for the lack of cleanliness. There was also a faint odor that might have been from dogs, although we were impressed that they were not allowed in the dining area. It's a shame that such potential is being wasted. Some attention to detail and focusing on the paying customer could greatly improve the overall experience."

This charming, cozy pub is run by a friendly lady behind the bar. Although there was a long wait for the food to arrive, it was well worth it as it was delicious.

This place is a hidden gem! The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy like a proper pub. The food is fabulous, and they have a great selection of local beers and fantastic rose wine.

Very welcoming pub, nice food and friendly staff! I had the vegetable Sunday roast and it was one of the nicest I had in a long time. We were a big group of 14 and ordered our food the previous day. Quick service and everyone was very happy.

My wife was recommended to try this pub when she was last staying in Mayfield and as she thoroughly enjoyed her first visit wanted me to try it with her yesterday when I popped down to see her. Warm welcome on entering and a good selection of freshly cooked food to order, which we loved. We will happily return if she is down in Mayfield on business and I am able to pop down again.

Greek Night, well what can I say? As we have some experience with authentic greek food we decided to join our friends for the greek night. The kleftico was mouth watering and fell off the bone, the lemon potatoes were spot on and the Tzatziki was beautiful. The wife had an amazing souvlaki. Lucy and the team were spot on and made sure we had our drinks. Looking forward to the mussels evening in a few weeks.

What a find! We arrived for a Sunday roast today, a first visit as we were staying nearby. We were served immediately by very friendly staff, the service was A1 throughout. The beef sirloin roast was superb and I'd have to say the Yorkshire pudding was the best I've ever tasted!! And I've tried a few and a whole jug of tasty gravy on the side. My husband had the beer battered fish n chips which was also fantastic. A good and varied menu, delivered to an extremely high standard. We will definitely be back. Well done Rose Crown. See you very soon I hope.

This pub was my local for many years 40 years ago when I moved from Tidebrook to Australia Going back to see old favourites can sometimes be disillusionment but it this case it was a joy. Not too much has changed, the shove halfpenny board was not evident, the restaurant area is now a function room but otherwise the place looked great. 8 of us invaded for drinks and lunch a reunion of those I played cricket with in Mayfield back in the day How good to see Harvey’s. So much better than the modern style beers and the fizzy lemonade style they call beer in Oz

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."
