"Be careful everyone. After going toThe Slipway for a Sunday lunch treat (spending over £50) We have received a parking fine for £100! We could not find the terminal to enter our car reg. It's not signposted nor is it in the reception as stated on the fine document. None of the staff made us aware it was at the bar. We were told it was behind the bar when we went to check after receiving the fine. So it's not on view, not in the reception area and not really accessible to customers. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour to screw money out of people who are already giving the pub their money"

We live local and was hoping for a new experience from previous landlords. Our impression was of a community club/sure start/drop in centre. Nice if that’s what you want but not for us thank you.

The food and friendly service more than make up for the outside appearance. Don’t let the fact it looks like it’s being renovated outside stop you from trying this one for a drink and bite to eat in a beautiful location next to the canal View menu

It's a work in progress with refurbishments ongoing. But a terribly poured pint of Guinness can be less easily accepted. It's okay, and I imagine it's really pleasant outside in the sunshine, but there are nicer bars a short walk away in either direction.

Called for drinks, it was a lovely day and the sun was shining so we sat outside. The drinks were served in reasonable time and they had some cocktails on tap. I tried the espresso martini and a passion fruit cocktail, both were very pleasant and served in a nice glass.

We had a great time at this charming tavern located by the canal. We stopped in for drinks while we waited for our Lancashire Canal Cruise, the "Hot Pot Cruise." It was lovely sitting at the new outdoor tables by the canal. The food looked fantastic, and we were not disappointed - the Hot Pot was delicious. We can't wait to come back for Sunday lunch! Changed owners time after time.. latest reincarnation looks good. Food competitively priced and a good choice. Pleasant canal side location. Also does day boat trips. Only drawback is the car park.... its big yet they want you to pay if you are not a pub customer. Killed our morning walk followed by lunch as the pub wasn't open. We don't all have smart phones !!!!!

Went the Slipway with family and friends for my husbands birthday tea which was fantastic. All the staff on that night couldn't have done enough for us, they were fabulous and made it a really great occasion. Special mention to the chef who produced 18 meals which everyone enjoyed. The younger ones in the group loved the play area and ice creams in different flavours.

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
