"On the third day of our hiking holiday in September 2019 we had completed the Moselsteig for us, there it no longer went after the mouth at the German corner. But we did not want to go back to Münsterland after three stages, so in Koblenz we went over to the Schäl see of the Rhine, because there the Rheinsteig and from there we also lack a few stages. For the 3rd of September we had taken the piece Rheinsteig from Koblenz, more precisely Pfaffendorfer Bridge to Braubach. There we had settled in the white swan and actually set up a meeting with colleague PetraIO, who wanted to arrive at the evening of Idar-Oberstein. The first damper then still in Koblenz on the eve, unfortunately, Petra and her husband had to cancel the meeting, we would have to spend the evening we had very pleased with. Not nice, but unfortunately life sometimes has other plans. So on Tuesday night after exhausting 22 kilometres of Rheinsteig we stood at the door of the hotel to the white swan in Braubach. The hotel restaurant to the white swan is an ensemble of several really beautifully renovated half-timbered houses right on the old town gate of Braubach on the Brunnen Straße. The building that houses the hotel rooms (there are even more rooms in the restaurant building is an old mill that really has flair inside. So we got a very nice room. For dinner you have to go down to the city gate and then stand in front of another department building. Through a narrow passage it goes into the courtyard, which is beautifully shielded from the street. The tables are sufficiently spaced and form beautiful seating areas. Also inside it is very historical. We had asked for a table on the terrace by early arrival and a correspondingly early meal. In the back area it was sunny. There my wife became involved in the free table selection. A small interim conclusion in terms of ambience. The white swan is already an eye-catcher, which has been renovated here with a lot of love, that is already exceptional and a beautiful place especially for gastronomy, according to which Petra had also taught us before and consequently we were very happy for the upcoming dinner. This then began with the fact that we had to wait a long time for the cards. This is well reduced, consists of 4 pages. A menu suggestion, a few appetizers, a few fish and meat dishes, a vegetarian, a few desserts. I personally found the dishes offered a bit very bodice and civic, but this is a very personal assessment, the majority of the customers in the swan may find it just as perfect. The wine list is well sorted and offers a good selection of regional and international wines. We ordered a layered wine from the WG Ratzenberger in Bacharach, a very fine Riesling. He accompanied us well through the dinner in the white swan. The kitchen welcomed us with bread, butter and a fresh cheese cream. Then followed another amuse gueule, a goat cheese with a pesto, unfortunately I can't remember what. But it tasted good. The two appetizers followed. For my wife Terrine from the smoked healed butter with sour beetle. She was very fond of the pesto, less tanned by the terrine where she missed both smoke and fish aroma. I ordered seasonals. Sauted pifferlings on small salad called it the card. Delicious look did it, but marginally salty were the pifferlings. That was hard at the border back to the kitchen, I was torn back and forth. In the end I ate most, but a really too salty part remained. Both appetizers left and not happy back that had to be better to the main dish. We agreed, and let this serve for both of us. roasts from pasture calf, homemade latencies and summer spices. Sauce testing, well tasted, not too much salt that tasted really better. The meat was very well tasted and the sauce tasty, we were a bit happier again. Delicious crisp cabbage as accompanying vegetables. And with good self-made late zle, you make the native swans happy. But also their husband. We dispensed with a dessert in favour of a beautiful old red wine in half bottle of 2005. He accompanied us in the sunset. Small snack food, both appetizers had deficiencies, the main course and the wines were delicious! The food left us for a while. But now the main reason for my title for this criticism. What really bothered us away from beautiful ambience and restricted good dishes was a feeling of non-willingness from the time of check-in to begging. The young lady who served us in the restaurant also checked us in the hotel building. When entering the lady was busy with a customer, we waited in the background until he left the reception. Then we were nodded to the fore without a word of welcome, also the further check-in happened with minimal conversation and cordiality, you immediately had the feeling of being disturbing. During the time between check in and eat in the restaurant my wife turned to the reception again, this time occupied with a middle-aged man (the boss? with the request for a booklet patch. That was answered with the words, didn't go, but my wife could ask the restaurant. Service idea? Customers who book a room for 140 EUR the night help? No thought, they're just disturbing. And this kind of customer treatment lasted all night. Very bad! Except only the friendly lady the next morning at breakfast, which greeted us most kindly and served us a great breakfast. Dear swan team, if you are welcomed, you don't feel welcome! And that is, of course, a fundamental problem in a hotel! This can then also not tear out a high-quality kitchen and a beautiful ambience. And if the kitchen is still crooked, guests just don't come back like my wife and I!"
