"Upcoming a very extensive review. My girlfriend and I stayed at Querce for 9 days. Arrival: After 13 hours driving we arrived at Le querce del Vareglio. The location is beautiful. Horses are roaming the grounds and the area is very secluded. Once you get up the hill there is more then enough room to park your car. At the reception we got our first sour taste of the hospitality of Le Querce. We got our key, where pointed to our room and that was that. No information what so ever on breakfast times, dinner times, the grounds, things to do in the area. Nothing.... The room: Our room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Great beds, a nice shower and a mini fridge. Dinner: After we had settled in our room we went for dinner at le Querce. During our entire holiday we had dinner twice at the restaurant at le Querce. Dinner was great, the food is absolutely amazing and also the wine is superb. Service however is very very very very bad. The lady who also gave us our key also took our order. She did not make any effort to understand us and when there was some confusion about if we wanted a glass of wine and a bottle of water our the other way around she actually sighed at us and rolled her eyes in impatience. That is why, on night one we decided to eat elsewhere as much as possible. If the owners read this review and are wondering about who i am referring to. Its the lady with the nose ring. Breakfast: Simply put it is good. A nice waitress (yes they have those to, she also cleans the rooms) asks you every morning if you want to stay for dinner and comes to get your order for some great coffee. There is some variety in food you can choose from during your breakfast, but it does hardly change. Area: As i stated before the area is great. The agriturismo looks beautiful. Asti, Alba, Genoa and ofcourse Torino are all nearby. I especially recommend visiting the wine museum in Barolo (the town where the famous wine comes from). The Pool: The pool is cold, but refreshing. Around the pool there are Fig trees. When the Figs dropped around the pool it was not cleaned. And therefore it attracted alot of wasps and flies. The sunbeds around the pool are in a poor state. Most of them are broken in one way or the other. General remarks: There are ALOT of mosquitos. We both got stung about 10 times on our first day and night. The Agriturismo obviously can't help this, they actually provide Deet (mosquito repellent) which is the best they can do, but i do want to warn people, especially those who are allergic. If you don't speak italian (well) then you get the feeling your stay is not appreciated. We got several instances where the service was just appaling. We learned there was a wine tasting no one informed us about, I got bitten by a dog from another (Italian) guest in front of multiple staff members. no one asked me anything about it or showed any concern. Also one night we where sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine when we over heard another dutch couple talk about how they just arrived and did not know the times for the breakfast (they were also badly informed at checkin). We told them how late breakfast was served, when suddenly all lights went off.... the staff from the Agriturismo just left, without warning us or asking us if we wanted to drink something before they left. If that was not strange enough they also left on all the candles on the tables, which the other dutch couple put out. Not very safe with the current drought. It felt like, when italian speaking people where on the terrace the bar would close much later, but now there where just two dutch couples and they closed early. Main thing for us is the service, or lack of it. I saw some reviews with lower ratings where the owner responds with that they have hospitality as their highest priority. I did not experience this at all! Our Italian is not good, but there was simply no effort in trying to understand us. I also saw some response that they are just a simple agriturismo. Prices tell a different story."
