"From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted. The staff kindly informed us that they don't serve alcohol, which gave us the option to leave if we wished, but it didn't bother us at all. They had a variety of soft drinks available, which we ordered. The food was excellent – we enjoyed the king prawn jalfrezi and the huka korma with rice, both of which were delicious. I also tried the pesh, which has quickly become my new favorite dish."

"This restaurant is a great addition to Hard Pool, with a variety of pizzas available with vegan cheese. We tried a vegetable pizza and it was delicious with gooey, melted cheese and a flavorful taste. It was lovely to enjoy our meal while overlooking the sea. The owners of this restaurant are kind and authentic, and it was inspiring to hear about their decision to leave the rat race for a more fulfilling lifestyle. I wish them the best of luck and will definitely be returning!"

"avoid them when they can, the ground, ground floor, bar and restaurators all looked beautiful, what my nan would have called all the fur coat, but no knickers the rooms are extremely poor. wall paper hanging from walls, rust in carpets, broken wash basins, dirty floors, dirty laundry...left in the halls. at the arrival there is no prescription that they have to go through the bar to check, the staff were in order, not excessively friendly, but also not rude. we asked about the breakfast on the first day and were told that the restaurator is not open, nor in the following night it was open in the evening, some form of communication would be good. the coworkers seem to be completely uninterested in the hotel, only the bar. the rooms rusty old and muffy with grubby throws and kisses (we all know that they are not washed after every customer and have a renter to have body fluids on them.) the bed dipped into the middle, the matratze had fed out of them, so we slept up on the bed. we bought our own kisses. the room was dark, dingy and stinking. Unfortunately we couldn't come anywhere else to stay. no check-out available, so the room key gave to the dame that wash the floors, as no one seemed to be different. I would not waste your money"

"Wife and I went for a meal Friday evening. We have been several times before and always enjoyed it. Restaurant was fairly busy. Decided to have a bottle of rose wine which waiter promptly brought over. Poured a glass each and discovered it was warm so asked for ice bucket and was told that the ice machine wasn’t working. No offer to exchange. Waited an hour, when my chicken skewers arrived there was 4 pieces of chicken, one sliver of onion and no pepper, 8 chips and half a pita bread that looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. Spoke to waitress who apologised and said she would sort it, returning shortly with a slightly improved dish but still only 2 slivers of onion and 1 sliver of pepper! Apparently the one chef was very busy. Food what little there was tasted amazing , such a shame about the experience. That annoyed we decided not to get a dessert and just pay the bill only to discover that the card machine wasn’t working. Was told the card machine had gone down however as regulars we know the machine has been down for over 6 months they obviously just want cash! Will not be visiting any more"

"We originally planned to have Sunday lunch at Moorcock Peterlee but it was too full, so we decided to try Golden Calf instead, which is just 3 miles from our house. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in and saw that there were only 8 people there. The three of us were quickly seated and we ordered Sunday lunch - two with beef and one with lamb. The landlady brought out our meals within 5 minutes, and we were delighted to see the massive portions of beef and lamb, along with an abundance of fresh vegetables in separate dishes. The feast included carrots, peas, roast parsnips, cauliflower mash, and cabbage, all for just £5.50. There was an option to upgrade to a large portion for £8.50, but even the medium was plenty for me (and I consider myself a big eater). We definitely plan to return and would recommend Golden Calf to anyone looking for great food. Additionally, our half portions of coke were only 80p each."
