"Came here for lunch, took a seat. There were a couple of other tables in, about 3 other pairs. Waitress took a while to come and take our drink order. While she was taking our order my friend said he wasn’t sure yet what he wanted and the waitress emphasised that she was taking our drink order, not our food. That was odd to say the least. Drinks took a while, took about 10 minutes for us to have our food order taken. A couple left while we were waiting for our food because nobody took their order. Food came and wasn’t great, rice was dry. Menus also need indicators of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free food as it’s unclear in places and most other cafes/restaurants have this. Staff was polite, overall ok experience. Will go back again and hopefully the experience improves."

"Having been a few times in the past my wife and I were very dissapointed yesterday . We had a long wait which we don't mind if the wait is worth it , sadly it wasn't. The fish was tasteless , the chips overcooked and dry .peas were also runny.Also the choice of beers isnt as good as it was on last visit coors instead of Estrella no thanks . We travel almost 20 miles for the experience so very dissapointed Price per person: £20–30 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4"

"I have ordered food from here while at work on a Monday to Friday and food is delivered promptly with no problems. However, delivery times for a Saturday is an absolute joke. I ordered a breakfast at 12:26 PM on Saturday via Just Eat, after waiting an hour and 20 minutes I phoned them to find out where the delivery was and I was told that I was next on the list so I asked them to cancel it because it would be at least another half an hour before it arrive making a grand total of 2 hours wait. At 2:50 PM I received a telephone call to say my delivery was at the door for me, by then I had made myself something to eat, eaten it and washed it up! DO NOT ORDER FOOD ON A SATURDAY UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO WAIT A LONG"

"This restaurant is a great addition to Hard Pool, with a variety of pizzas available with vegan cheese. We tried a vegetable pizza and it was delicious with gooey, melted cheese and a flavorful taste. It was lovely to enjoy our meal while overlooking the sea. The owners of this restaurant are kind and authentic, and it was inspiring to hear about their decision to leave the rat race for a more fulfilling lifestyle. I wish them the best of luck and will definitely be returning!"

"Wife and I went for a meal Friday evening. We have been several times before and always enjoyed it. Restaurant was fairly busy. Decided to have a bottle of rose wine which waiter promptly brought over. Poured a glass each and discovered it was warm so asked for ice bucket and was told that the ice machine wasn’t working. No offer to exchange. Waited an hour, when my chicken skewers arrived there was 4 pieces of chicken, one sliver of onion and no pepper, 8 chips and half a pita bread that looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. Spoke to waitress who apologised and said she would sort it, returning shortly with a slightly improved dish but still only 2 slivers of onion and 1 sliver of pepper! Apparently the one chef was very busy. Food what little there was tasted amazing , such a shame about the experience. That annoyed we decided not to get a dessert and just pay the bill only to discover that the card machine wasn’t working. Was told the card machine had gone down however as regulars we know the machine has been down for over 6 months they obviously just want cash! Will not be visiting any more"

"We originally planned to have Sunday lunch at Moorcock Peterlee but it was too full, so we decided to try Golden Calf instead, which is just 3 miles from our house. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in and saw that there were only 8 people there. The three of us were quickly seated and we ordered Sunday lunch - two with beef and one with lamb. The landlady brought out our meals within 5 minutes, and we were delighted to see the massive portions of beef and lamb, along with an abundance of fresh vegetables in separate dishes. The feast included carrots, peas, roast parsnips, cauliflower mash, and cabbage, all for just £5.50. There was an option to upgrade to a large portion for £8.50, but even the medium was plenty for me (and I consider myself a big eater). We definitely plan to return and would recommend Golden Calf to anyone looking for great food. Additionally, our half portions of coke were only 80p each."
