"From initial emails back and forth, to arriving on the day, we could not have asked for more. The team were prompt to respond and so friendly and helpful throughout. The team had even attached some pretty decorations to the ceiling, and we were able to arrive slightly earlier than the booked time to decorate further. The food was exceptional, a great range of freshly made sandwiches, cakes, scones with jam and cream alongside homemade coleslaw and salad. The drink choice was extensive and everyone was able to find something they enjoyed (with great comments about the hot chocolate and coffee in particular! The baby shower overran slightly but we were able to stay a little past closing time, which was really appreciated too. After only being to the cheeky bean a couple of times before for brunch and coffee, I will certainly be visiting more often and will continue to recommend this lovely business. A big thankyou again. Beth"

"Five star service is not exactly what you expect when you enter the Cheese Yard Restaurant but it's very true, it is a very casual place and very homely, it's not a pub more of an upmarket Café although it's off down a country lane that leads to nowhere apart from nice countryside walks and a amazing view of the Glastonbury Tor. It's definitely a hidden gem and the food on offer is like your Mum makes, really crispy potatoes or chips and generous portions, perfect place to meet family and friends for Breakfast, Lunch or Afternoon Tea with a choice of Amazing cakes. Did l mention Dog Friendly too and l mean so much fuss was made of my 2 Puggies they felt like celebraties. Can't wait to return."

"First night of a long weekend in Rode looking after a couple of chocolate Labradors, we were able to sit and eat without the dogs being a problem. Me and my life like real ale and they had a couple of choices from Butcombe brewery, the ale was kept and served well. The menu was great and they helped my wife who is dairy free and marked down all of the items on the menu that were, or could be made, dairy free, great service! When our food came it was lovely, well presented and tasted awesome. They are actually booked out most days so we were lucky to get in, we tried to book for Sunday lunch which they managed to squeeze us in, so we are looking forward to going back for this. Highly recommended but try to book your table in advance by a few days at least so that you’re not disappointed."

"We spent 2 nights at the inn with friends. What a wonderful time we had, all the staff were fabulous. All were very friendly and very attentive especially Richard. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed. We will definitely be making a return visit. Food drinks: We had breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Everything we ordered was excellent, could not find fault with the service or the quality of the food. Also very well presented."

"This restaurant is not ideal for anyone looking for a quick meal. It took a very long time to place our order as we were seemingly forgotten. Other customers who arrived after us were served before we were. It took over 40 minutes from ordering to receiving our food. The food was delicious, but the slow service was a letdown. Nobody asked about our experience, and when clearing the plates, the staff did not say anything other than "have you finished.""

"I went with friends to the Royal Oak, Walton on Friday 11th August. When we arrived, we gave the name of the person who had booked the table. The waitress had no reservation for us, despite booking several weeks earlier, and having received confirmation. It was not busy, so a table was found for us. We purchased drinks, and sat at our table. The waitress brought the menus and left us to browse the menu. Several minutes later the waitress returned for our orders. We gave our orders, and the waitress looked confused. She then realised she had given us the wrong menus. The menus were then changed, and we were then asked to choose from this new menu. The second menu was not as interesting as the first one, however we made our choices. One of the group of 4 then asked if there was Garlic in her choice of food as she is allergic to Garlic. The waitress went into the kitchen to ask the chef. She returned and informed us that EVERYTHING, yes EVERYTHING has Garlic in it. Even the batter that the fish is coated in has Garlic in it! Unbelievable. Obviously we could not stay, so we finished our drinks, and left hungry. There was a Stoney silence from the waitress as we paid for our drink on the way out. We went into the local town, and got takeaway Fish and Chips. Not quite the meal we had planned to celebrate 2 birthdays in the coming week. 3 of the diners live in the village, and have lived there for many years. It is unlikely that we shall return. A VERY UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

"I have not stayed here , but would love to. The service and environment was just perfect for a family Sunday lunch and we had a great time exploring this historic pub. We were in the dungeon which sounded ominous but turned out to be a warm, welcoming ambient room for larger tables if guests. The menu offered a really good selection, very important as some of our party were vegetarian pescatarian. I can recommend hand on heart this is one of the loveliest pub experiences I have had in the UK for as long as I can remember. Shame I only have personal pics . Food drinks: Excellent !"

"Outstanding service!!! Wow what an incredible group of waiters/waitresses! We had a group evening meal of 14 people here on a Saturday night in Dec. It was a Xmas set menu which we preordered and that was all communicated and organised effectively prior to the evening. On the evening itself, the service provided was the best we’ve ever had and the whole group truly felt like we were the only table in the pub. The staff were so attentive to what was going on, when the best time was for the meals to come out, when people wanted drinks, when to bring out a birthday cake honestly no one had to ask for a single thing because they were just so on it. The food was amazing, filling and we were all served literally at the same time so no one was waiting for food because it all come together. Just amazing amazing amazing. If you are looking for a pub in Somerset to host a hassle free, tasty group meal I genuinely couldn’t recommend this pub more. We can’t wait to return. Thank you!!"

"We made a reservation well in advance to guarantee a table for a pre-Christmas meal with our family, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in. The food was top-notch, with excellent quality, generous portions, and affordable prices. We had a perfect evening and would rate it 10/10."

"We stopped by this restaurant in Wells for lunch as it was the only option open in the afternoon. As vegetarians, we decided to try the mushroom burgers, which turned out to be simply a large mushroom with salad in a bun. While the bun was nice, it was not exactly what we were expecting in terms of a burger. The food was average, and the restaurant itself was not very clean. The staff were not particularly welcoming, as they mainly spoke to each other and did not inquire about our meal. Overall, the service, atmosphere, and food quality were all rated a 3 out of 5. The price per person was between £10-20. We somewhat recommend this restaurant for vegetarians, as the vegetarian options are clearly labeled on the menu."
"Arrived in the area late afternoon for a week's holiday. The accommodation Guest Information book suggested The Westbury Inn. We had driven a fair distance so wanted something local. Warm welcome and attentive staff, the pub is a typical old English country pub. We tried two of the dishes on offer, Haddock and chips and Duck. All the food we had was well cooked and extremely enjoyable. My only slight negative might be that it is reasonably expensive but definitely a very pleasant place."

"This pub is located in the charming village of Beckington and offers a delightful experience. After a long trip, we found the service to be excellent, the food to be of high quality, and the atmosphere to be warm and inviting. The locals we spoke to clearly love their village pub, and it's easy to see why. This inn has a welcoming feel that is rare in today's era of trendy gastropubs. It offers a modern take on the traditional British pub, with great food and ales. The menu changes daily, but everything we tried was prepared and served with care. This is a pub worth returning to time and time again. Service: 5 Location: 5"

"We have just had the most amazing short break staying at this gorgeous hotel. Our room was excellent with a separate bathroom which has a fantastic bath tub! The dinner we enjoyed in the restaurant was cooked and presented to a really high standard and the breakfast the following morning was just WOW. Freshly cooked, served on warm plates and the toast was hot. I don’t know how many times when we have stayed away that we have sent the cold toast back, but not here and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent customer service and all this made our very much needed break away truly memorable. Also just need to add the view of Wells Cathedral from the hotel and bedroom was an added gem Rooms: Our room had an amazing four poster bed and tub bath and walk in shower in the bathroom; lovely fluffy towels. Walkability: A stones throw away from the main shopping street, local market, Cathedral and other pubs and restaurants Food drinks: Great menu for evening meal and breakfast and cooked to perfection Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury, Romantic, Quiet, Great value"

"This café in Wells is one of my favorites because of its unique atmosphere. The café has a great vibe with adorable decor and a relaxed feel. The food is also enjoyable. While they may not have a wide variety of vegan options, what they do have is delicious and one-of-a-kind. I tried the vegan breakfast, which was unlike any other vegan breakfast I've had before. The portion size was a bit small for the price, with the most substantial items being the vegan sausage and beans, along with mushrooms and tomatoes. They only had one or two vegan cake options, and I opted for the banana peanut butter cake which was delicious. I would love to see more vegan options on their menu in the future."

"This is an excellent restaurant in the Centre of Wells, very near the Cathedral. They accommodated my friends and I for Sunday lunch even though they were fully booked. It was my friends birthday and we were a party of 12. Everyone really enjoyed their lunch which was the best Sunday lunch I had had for a very long time. I am vegetarian and their nut roast was to die for. I would definately recommend booking this restaurant if you visit wells. I am going to next time I visit Wells. Also the decor was quaint too and all the staff were very helpful and happy."
"Should be so much better. 5 visits since it reopened; 1st review, as I hoped it would improve. Beautiful refurbishment, garden lovely, definitely 5 star. Unfortunately it's not run to the same standard. You rarely feel welcome. Bar offering poor, no premium lager, no sauvignon blanc, (or anything similar, no local refreshing cider. Food very hit and miss, menu looks good, but 50% of the food served is bland, not very warm and frankly disappointing. To me a major problem is the 12.5% service charge. I'm an adult, I can make up my own mind as to tip or not. On a recent visit, I went to the bar to ordered drinks, put them on our table, ordered food at the bar, paid at the bar (bill was completly wrong , so the only service was the delivery of our food from the kitchen, for which I was expected to pay 12.5% service, really??!! I want to love this pub, as it local to us and a good pub is desperately needed, but I can't, and won't return until I hear better reviews. Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4"

"After a long drive to Bath and struggling to find parking in the center, we were very hungry. However, our day turned around when we stumbled upon this lovely little pub. We were all very happy with our food and the service was excellent. The waitress was friendly and attentive, especially to our child. We will definitely be coming back. I started with the creamy tarragon sauce mushrooms on garlic ciabatta, which was absolutely delicious. The fish and chips were also fantastic - the fish was freshly filleted and the batter was homemade. For dessert, I had the fruit bread and butter pudding with homemade custard, which was a delight. My partner had salt and pepper prawns and squid, as well as a homemade beef burger, all of which he enjoyed. Our child had scampi and liked it as well. The bill came to £77, including drinks, which was a bit more than we usually spend, but it was worth it for the quality of the food and service. We regret not taking pictures of our food as we were too eager to eat it all. Can't wait to come back and thank the staff again for a wonderful meal."

"Came here with my family when visiting Shepton Mallet for breakfast and it was the best Full English I have ever had.. my wife had the scrambled eggs which was also excellent. We also decided to return a few days later for Lunch. It was very busy and I can see why. Staff were lovely.. we were assisted by Lucy who was extremely kind and helpful, and great with our children (and another kind young lady.. but I cannot recall her name). Thank you, we will hopefully be able to return soon. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Interesting. Nice restaurant, good atmosphere. Good poppadoms and pickles. I ordered the sag paneer as a main course with pilao rice. Rice was a bit bland, the curry was made with cream and underspiced. Very bland and disappointing. However, my wife had a daal with naan bread; the daal was very good, well spiced excellent texture. Good naan. I also ordered a roti which was good. So overall a mixed experience. It was a popular place, very busy for a Sunday evening so either my meal was an anomaly or just isn't the right thing to order at this restaurant.
