"This as an absolutely charming pub, it's the oldest public house in England and a level II historical building. And is stated to have been built around 1622. There is a decent amount of parking available, there is a fee to park. You can pay by the hour or it is is £3 to park for 24 hours. After you've paid to park show the bartender your ticket and they will give you a discount off of your round. Make sure to take the ticket back to your car and place it on your dash board. This establishment is part of the JW Lee Brewery pubs. But unlike other JW Lee pubs, This pub doesn't serve the typical Lee's menu of fast serve foods. The pub manager Louise is a chef and has created a menu full of delicious items and served in very generous portions. On Sundays they have a traditional carvery dinner buffet. There is a very long history associated with this pub and I highly recommend a walk around to view the various rooms and pictures on the wall. There are multiple rooms available to book for private events as well as a lovely outdoor area. The staff are all very warm and friendly and always smiling. And the prices are good."

"This is a honest and genuine review. Order 10 times and 2 of those times you will get delicious, perfect food. 4 times, you’ll get what you ordered, but unfortunately it’s as stale as month old bread, probably from the day or several days before, and the other 4 times you won’t get what you’ve even ordered and things will be missing. Good food 2 out of 10 times is totally unacceptable, especially at the prices they charge. The most annoying thing is, they can offer good food and service when they can be bothered, so there’s no excuse, lazy?? Ripping you off? You decide."

"Easy to find, plenty of parking (input your reg on screen at side of the bar) and the restaurant accommodated an unusual request I made for having a non verbal autistic child. Environment was warm and friendly. Meal sizes was good for the price and all food and desserts came out at the same time. Steak was perfect too!! Hats off to the cook(s)! Only very slight drawbacks was wait time for the food and one item off the menu was unavailable but that was due to its popularity. I saw a few walk ins turned away. I think if the turn around time for the food could be improved just a little, you could accommodate these guys too, especially in the days of what must be ultra tight margins for you."

"Booked a birthday meal for a friend, 8 in total, starters were really good and the main meals were also really good, highly recommended the Chicken burger and the Sea Bass was also really good, the desert let it down a bit... The cream boulevard was too soggy and no caramelised sugar on top, The Yorkshire Pudding pudding was well, different shall we say, overall yeah we would go again, enjoyed the evening Price per person: £20–30"

"As visitors to the area, we decided to dine at the Gate Inn, and we were warmly greeted, even our little dog! The food we had was fantastic—well-cooked, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. We certainly didn't leave feeling hungry. There was a selection of four real ales, which is something I really appreciate. I was pleased to see that a third of a pint was poured and discarded before my pint was served, ensuring that I received a quality drink. This attention to detail speaks to a good landlord who cares about the beer served, and I was not disappointed."

"The restaurant has a nice and cozy atmosphere. We usually use OpenTable to make reservations successfully. However, on this occasion, we received a call from the pub after our confirmed time saying that they could not accommodate us at the booked time. They did offer us a table at 12 instead of 1:45 as originally booked. The staff made us feel welcome. The food, as usual for this chain (we eat often at Whittington Arms), was good, although it was not served as hot as it should have been on this particular day."
