"This as an absolutely charming pub, it's the oldest public house in England and a level II historical building. And is stated to have been built around 1622. There is a decent amount of parking available, there is a fee to park. You can pay by the hour or it is is £3 to park for 24 hours. After you've paid to park show the bartender your ticket and they will give you a discount off of your round. Make sure to take the ticket back to your car and place it on your dash board. This establishment is part of the JW Lee Brewery pubs. But unlike other JW Lee pubs, This pub doesn't serve the typical Lee's menu of fast serve foods. The pub manager Louise is a chef and has created a menu full of delicious items and served in very generous portions. On Sundays they have a traditional carvery dinner buffet. There is a very long history associated with this pub and I highly recommend a walk around to view the various rooms and pictures on the wall. There are multiple rooms available to book for private events as well as a lovely outdoor area. The staff are all very warm and friendly and always smiling. And the prices are good."

I've eaten here a few times but today's experience wasn't good, I wanted to order the cheese pie with mashed potatoes and beans but they couldn't swop chips for mash, dont know why as they are both potatoes so I ordered sausage mash and beans instead, it arrived smothered in strong smelling onion gravy, who puts onion gravy with beans, I had to just pick at the bits and cover it with beans. Also I feel more veggie options would be good, my partner is veggie always ends up with cheese pie or burger, thankfully he likes chips.

The Olde Boars Head (please note the brewery, J.W. Lees, choose not to have an apostrophe, not me) is a Grade 2 listed building on Long Street Middleton. It was used as a coaching inn on the road between Chester and York and is believed to date back until at least 1632. The pub is reputed to be haunted, but is now more commonly known as a family pub with a lunch time carvery, but please note there is no food in the evenings. The charming black and white building has loads of interesting details and The staff are friendly, the pub has a reasonable amount of parking at the side, a beer garden at the back and a private function room.

Amazing pub with a great character and interesting history. The interior design is very impressive, with many of the olden day elements still there, so you can really see what it used to be like. Customer service was also good, with the staff being attentive to the needs of the guests. We were very satisfied with the quality of the food as well fresh ingredients, fair and affordable prices, and generous portions. One minor thing that could be changed is that when ordering tea, I think the water should be served in a teapot so you can decide how strong you want the tea, instead of it being brewed by the staff at the bar. Overall if you have time I would recommend visiting this pub.
