"Our second visit was even better than our first and that was great! My wife and I visited the Puckersley with friends who live close by. It was our second visit and we remembered that the food was good. A new menu had been introduced just that evening (Friday the 13th) and I noticed a selection of “Rice Bowls” from which I chose the King Prawn option. I can’t fully remember the menu description but it was something like “Salt and Pepper Spicy King Prawns Rice Bowl” MY GOODNESS! I have eaten in some fancy places and never have I been more surprised and delighted by a dish than I was that night. It was served beautifully, the prawns were lightly battered like Tempura prawns they were on a bed of egg fried rice surrounded by a lovely sauce containing goodness knows how many different chilli peppers and beautifully diced vegetables. It was even more enhanced by some greenery (sorry, i forgot what it was) which reminded me of a lightly fried rocket which just melted in your mouth. The dish is a TRIUMPH and must not be missed. I look forward to trying the other versions of this dish on our next visit and we will certainly visit again. Our friends ordered steaks which arrived cooked exactly as they requested which is unusual in itself but not, our friends say, at the Puckersley! My wife could only look enviously at my bowl but fortunately reported that her Scampi was excellent too. The waiting staff (All girls as it happened) were very happy, smiling and extremely efficient too. DO NOT MISS THIS PUB, IT IS A GEM."

"We have given this place quite a few chances over the years as it’s such a nice setting but every time it’s been so disappointing. When we heard that the hotel had been taken over by another company and we saw a really good dining deal 2 courses for 2 people £20 although on the website now says £22) we decided to give it a try. From walking into the restaurant I knew it was not going to be what I wanted. The room is still very dated but not in a nice traditional way. Just tired and old fashioned and dark and gloomy. The views are lovely so such a shame they can’t spend a bit of money making it a little nicer. But it was busy and I only managed to get a booking by booking a few days in advance so I thought stop being picky it should be the food that is that main attraction. Well I’m sorry but probably the worst meal I’ve had in ages. All three of us thought the same. Two of us had the soup think bland hospital) and the other had fishcake. This was ok and nice little salad serving. Then onto the mains two had the chicken. Again bland and tasteless and hardly any veg on plate and swimming in an insipid clear thin gravy although you couldn’t really call it gravy). I had the blade of beef. This was utterly tasteless and in the same insipid pale sauce with minimal mash and veg. Just awful. Infact we brought the chicken home for the dog! Sorry but apart from maybe a drink in the sun on their lovely terrace we won’t be back. Proof that you get what you pay for unfortunately."
