"Really lovely food service at The Black Ladd in Shaw. After a rainy walk, 4 of us were looking for somewhere to eat. It was a busy Saturday evening the restaurant was fully booked. The very helpful head waitress accommodated us in the bar area kindly put extra heating on as we were cold wet from the walk. I’m presuming it is a dog friendly pub as the restaurant is separate from the bar area. 3 of us had the homemade cheese onion pie the 4th person had the steak ale pie, all came with gorgeous thick hand cut chips. Our cheese onion pie is up there with the best I’ve tasted, lovely strong cheese flavour no evidence of being packed out with mash potato that you sometimes get in that type of pie. The pastry underneath was cooked right through, (I really dislike some pies that still have transparent pastry on the bottom). Apparently the steak pie was also lovely, no grissle or fat to be found. All our food was piping hot when it arrived. The staff service was brilliant throughout our visit. Well done to all staff, especially the chef. We will defo return. Top tip, if you go during the week they have some really good 2 course 3 course deals on offer. Monday Thursday."

Received a voucher for a wedding present so we booked for a meal. We also have a dog so we was delighted that the dog was welcomed. Lovely service. Gorgeous meal. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you for a enjoyable afternoon. Lovely meals. Will come again definitely with the dog.

We only stopped for a drink but bar lady/possibly manager was lovely and friendly and had a chat with us. All staff are friendly and as soon as our glass was empty we were offered another drink. This never happens anymore in large commercial bars. We will be back for food: thank you

Visited with my daughter on a Sunday. Really friendly staff and a lovely setting where the pub is. The food was really nice home cooked food, the pea and ham soup was as good as my mothers and the cottage pie delicious. My daughter had a Cajun chicken burger which she enjoyed. I would definitely visit again when in the area. View menu

Having never tried rag pudding before I thought I would give it a go. It was delicious! And the peach crumble for pudding was just what was needed on a wet and windy September day. I was slightly scared by the idea of mint custard (which my husband had) but it was really lovely, especially paired with the chocolate fudge cake. We will definitely be coming back.

Fantastic food and Initial service. The lady who looked after us at first was amazing, as was the barman. As the restaurant got busier, the service was let down somewhat. A young girl and more mature lady were looking after the bar area but forgot orders where we had to wait and ask a couple of times. The carbonara Cheese pie were amazing. The soups were great and all the food was fresh. Prices were very reasonable too. We will definitely return

"Our second visit was even better than our first and that was great! My wife and I visited the Puckersley with friends who live close by. It was our second visit and we remembered that the food was good. A new menu had been introduced just that evening (Friday the 13th) and I noticed a selection of “Rice Bowls” from which I chose the King Prawn option. I can’t fully remember the menu description but it was something like “Salt and Pepper Spicy King Prawns Rice Bowl” MY GOODNESS! I have eaten in some fancy places and never have I been more surprised and delighted by a dish than I was that night. It was served beautifully, the prawns were lightly battered like Tempura prawns they were on a bed of egg fried rice surrounded by a lovely sauce containing goodness knows how many different chilli peppers and beautifully diced vegetables. It was even more enhanced by some greenery (sorry, i forgot what it was) which reminded me of a lightly fried rocket which just melted in your mouth. The dish is a TRIUMPH and must not be missed. I look forward to trying the other versions of this dish on our next visit and we will certainly visit again. Our friends ordered steaks which arrived cooked exactly as they requested which is unusual in itself but not, our friends say, at the Puckersley! My wife could only look enviously at my bowl but fortunately reported that her Scampi was excellent too. The waiting staff (All girls as it happened) were very happy, smiling and extremely efficient too. DO NOT MISS THIS PUB, IT IS A GEM."
