"our first stay in the village hotel was brilliant. we have a lot, so the stay was very cheap. room was very clean, could have been done with a mini fridge, but it is not a big thing. we really enjoyed it with the pool steam bath. brilliant with a star-corner in the space that was handy for a morning coffee. the only thing I would mention is the noise of the gym tomorrow is quite loud, we were in the 3rd floor, and we were awakened by loud music at 8 o'clock, so did not get the sleep we hoped we had. dining room service was nice, but only a little expensive. great hotel, anyway, and would certainly return."

"Excellent food! The focaccia starter was a little overpriced for what it was, but still tasty. However, the main courses more than made up as they were both delicious and although not large portions, were a good size and a lot better than many places. I had the pork belly/pork loin with dauphinoise and savoy; my other half had the goats cheese and cranberry filo with orange and chickpea salad. Would be happy to recommend both dishes. The dessert was the real standout though. The lemon curd and passionfruit Eton mess was the choice for both of us, and it was simply superb. Little things made it so good, like the homemade meringue that was much denser than normal meringue, and the liberal application of fruit (always a bugbear of mine with this dish elsewhere). The staff were very friendly, helpful and just seemed like a really nice cheerful bunch of folks. All in all an excellent experience. This was my first visit in almost 25 years, but I'll be back again for a third visit soon!"

"We had a family meal late lunch here, a couple of days ago. It was lovely! The other people in the restaurant were equally happy, there was a young italian family too. There is a good children’s menu. The oysters are excellent but tend to sell out. I had fish and chips; they were so well made the food did not feel heavy on the stomach. Check opening times and book in advance, if you want to eat here, as it gets busy. We did not book but luckily it was 45 mins to closing so we got a table. I can’t remember if there was baby change facilities here, but the very good maritime museum, 1 minute walk away, has some there. Staff were very nice. Chefs very professional. I would recommend this restaurant very highly… good for families were young children too."

"This was our first Christmas dinner out as a family so we did not know what to expect. We have been to the Packe Arms many times and have always been impressed. Christmas Day was no exception. Staff were lovely, food was brilliant and the atmosphere was very festive. We particularly loved that there was a busy atmosphere but that the pub had not been packed to the max. The flow of families was very well managed, it wasn't too crowded and you weren't rushed off your table either, but there were enough people about to feel like tounwere sharing the daybwith others. We were served quickly but leisurely and not once we're we made to feel an inconvenience or a bother. Staff seemed to be happy working and we're all in good spirits too Kid-friendliness: Our children have always been welcomed and accommodated here Price per person: £80–90 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free of charge parking lot"

"What a horrendous experience. I really don’t know where to start, we work hard all year and finished work on Friday 22nd so booked to go to the star on Saturday to start our family Christmas celebrations. Were had a dreadful year and were looking forward to a nice meal out. Firstly when we arrived the waitress came within minutes to take our order. I asked if we could order drinks and just give us a few minutes to look at the food menu. My son ordered a regular Coke, I ordered the Christmas cosmo cocktail and my husband the zero alcohol peroni. My god this was hard work , firstly I was told they might not be able to do the cocktail, my son was brought a pint of Coke and my husband a pint of peroni? He queried if it was correct as shed checked at least 3 times before what he wanted and was assured it was. However a few minutes later the waitress rushed over to advise it was in fact alcohol!! She then didn’t come back to take our food order for over 30 mins (I’d point out at this point the restaurant was more than half empty) When taking the food order we ordered the cheesy garlic bread , chorizo bites and olives to share as a starter. We were advised they didn’t have any cheese , so the bread would just be garlic bread. We agreed that would be fine. My husband ordered the duo of lamb, sorry no lamb was the response ! Eventually after another long wait our starters came out and omg ! The garlic bread was burnt to a crisp ! Black ! My husband took this back to the waitress and told her to take it back and take off our bill. How on earth any self respecting chef let that leave the kitchen , or a waitress bring that to a customer’s table is insulting. When the mains came we were at the point of giving up. Both my husbands main and my main were cold !! Stone cold. We decided to just eat what we could and get out of there. So we asked for the bill. We waited and waited and waited. All the time all three members of staff were huddled around the til. Obviously having an issue. But instead of coming over and apologising for the wait we were left sitting there. Eventually after calling IT they resolved the issue. On the way out my husband did express how bad the experience was. The manager offered to deduct something off the bill. But that would make no difference to our ruined lunch out. The food is below par, the prices were an absolute rip off!! Nearly £30 for a burger with a pig in blanket screwed to the top. I will not be returning here. It was a shame because 13 months ago we’d had a lovely meal , but this experience was horrendous. Never again"

"I have visited many pubs for meals, but I have to say, the food at this restaurant is incomparable. The roasts were served hot, fresh, and quickly. My mother's vegetarian meal was exceptional, my beef roast was delicious, and my daughter's meal was also very tasty. She was provided with a kids' activity sheet to keep her entertained while we waited, although the service was prompt and friendly. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was not too busy or crowded. The location is lovely and I highly recommend this restaurant."
"We had been to this pub some months ago to attend a Wake, of which it was good. We were again in the area after a Funeral and wanted a light bite. The pub offers good parking although smashed glass in the car parking area. Seating inside or out. We choose indoors. The menu had a good variety of choice. However after placing an order of a Small Fish and Chips around 6.50, and a starter with Haddock and Cheese, the waitress returned to our table to inform us there was no haddock. The order was replaced with a Waldorf Salad, at 8.50. Two pieces of chicken, no celery was present and not even half a walnut. Great sauce over lettuce though! The walnut pieces were the size of pin heads. I pointed this out to the waitress as I could not see any, nor could I recognize the pieces of walnut they could have pine pine nuts, and when we came to pay, I mentioned the lack of celery and walnuts again, as the message had not been given to other staff. Therefore value for money: regards Salad= poor Service: average, staff were not concerned about customers, nor did we feel looked after. A disappointing visit. It was a Thursday and quiet around 8pm"

"Went here with my partner for a activity superstore gift someone had bought us as a present for dinner. When we arrived after our long journey we had to use the toilet facilities, shock horror to find the disabled only women toilet) was absolutely disgusting. Paper towels everywhere and ladies toiletries. I had to speak to the receptionist and she got onto it straight away. toilet was cleaned) but first impression it was a bit late. Once we was shown to our table we were given a very basic menu choice. I ordered the seabass which to be told they didnt have but gave me a choice of different fish, the food came and my partners chicken was very dry from the off, but the salmon was lovely. Soup was nice for starters and dessert for my partner was lovely. Staff were great and welcoming. Just too basic menu choice and would have preferred the main menu and paid extra if needed and not worth the money, had better."

"we both had steaks and they were so delicious. in the 50s I had many meals over the years. that was just one of the best meals we've ever had. great service, good food, including desserts. only what we did not see was the salate, since he was half an salate with a cheeseflake. beautiful taste, but meaningless, as not really fit with steak mushrooms and pommes. even the hot chocolate drink was great! we have never been to a miller and carter steakhouse, but we will definitely go back. absolutely super. 10/10."

"When we got there our table had been given to someone else so we were put in a corner right next to another table within earshot for the whole evening... The starter and main was lovely but the dessert, a simple Eton mess was inedible... A bowl of mush with cream and a strawberry on top... They took it back and took it off the bill but it ruined the experience of a romantic meal."

"We celebrated our wedding anniversary and thought it would be good to try somewhere else, but it was an average pub setting. Good selection of drinks especially the gin and the service was good, but felt that the waitress looking for us had a lot of tables to look. Limited vegetarian decisions and we ended with pizzas, as the alternatives were inspiring. Would go again, but not for a celebrity meal. Please note that you add better vegetarian options to your menu."

I just kept getting apologise. We have allways loved this place."

"Visited the Otter on Mother’s Day which also coincided with my birthday. Decided to opt for the Mother’s Day special menu because of the great dishes on offer. The meal was excellent and none of our party of four could fault it. We were looked after by Cat who could not have been more helpful. All in all a very enjoyable experience and we will definitely be making a return visit."

"This was without a doubt the worst dining experience that I have had in many years. Upon arrival we were seated in the dining room which was very quiet with only one other table occupied. We then waited minutes before we were offered a drink. Thirty minutes in our food order was taken, at which point we were told there was no steak'. There were six main courses on the menu, two of which were steak which all three of us had intended to order. Unabashed we ordered two soups and a gravlax starter, were were then told that there was no gas working in the kitchen and that some of our food would have to be prepared in the adjacent farm shop Our starters were OK' at best. When our main courses arrived they were.. Fish Chips, tepid and dry. An over cooked, barely warm burger and a plate of the most unappetising, inedible muck I have ever been given. Ham, egg and chips. I didn't try the ham or the chips, as the eggs were ice cold and rock solid (I was later told that they had had to be cooked in the oven as there was, yes, no gas). Why a restaurant would operate in this way I have no idea. If you don't have the facility to cook, stop seating people in your restaurant and trying to wing it' I returned the food and asked for the bill. When it arrived the H, E C had been taken off, this was the only concession that was made. The waiting staff were very apologetic, the person whom I assumed was the manager, not so much. She seemed genuinely put out that we were unhappy! We received our starters an hour after we were seated and our mains minutes later. I said I would not pay for the main courses as the whole thing was a fiasco which was met with the retort you ate the burger I said that if the mains weren't taken off of the bill I wouldn't pay anything and so they were grudgingly removed This pub/restaurant is far from cheap, but I have eaten a there lot. The food is usually good, sometimes very good, but this was unacceptable in every way"

"Fine food and Issues Decided to visit as the reviews were mainly great. Arrived to find it looked ten minutes after due to be open. They were just opening the door. I went in and quickly used the toilet, not flushed by last person that used it! It's a well laid out, well decorated restaurant. I chose the Escargots as my starter, well cooked with a very small amount of sauce sadly no tongs to hold the shell. They were 6 very nice molluscs. The main was an absolutely sensational tasty seafood salad. Interesting dressing on a generous variety of sea food and nice salad. I had ordered a lime and soda, it transpired they had no lime so someone went out to buy some and could only get lemon, which was ok. When it came to the desert I liked the idea of four of them but ordered the lemon tart. A few minutes later the lady running front of house (I later discovered it was her first day in post!! Returned hugely apologetic telling me sadly they had no lemon tart. I chose the cherry clafouti and a few minutes later the young lady came back devastated to tell me they had none of that either! I eventually had a brownie, which she didn't charge me for. Must confess it didn't excite and the supplied ice cream was quite crystallised as if it had been refrozen. The table next to me were told they had no more Escargot, so clearly they opened with only one portion available. Front of house was good, 2/3 of the food I had was great but clearly someone needs to sort out the kitchen too many problems to give customers confidence of availability. Was it worth the trip? Oh yes but they have some serious organisational issues to resolve."

"Just got home from having Sunday lunch here. Three out of the four of us had traditional roasts served with side vegetables and extra gravy and the other the pork escalope. For dessert a sorbet, a crème brulee and a chocolate marble moose cake. The food was all absolutely excellent although I should say the moose cake is only for those with a very sweet tooth. The venue is a lovely old timbered building with good décor and is just a nice place to be. And to complete the pleasure of the whole experience our server, Caitlin, was helpful and patient (we had a very elderly friend in our group) and very kindly sorted something out so that although we seriously overran our agreed time slot we didn't have to move. Definitely will go again on our next visit to Stratford"

"I have been dining here for a number of years, fairly regularly. The personalised service by the family run business is always outstanding. The food is the main draw...and boy is it worth it. Having experienced many of the restaurants offering what would seem like a simple cuisine...only few have really mastered the consistent quality and taste. The recent change to their Chip supplier has propelled the chips to a whole different level... The battered Cod and haddock are absolutely super light and crispy on the outside with succulent white flesh on the inside. To round up....the traditional apple crumble with warm custard....will remind you of the glorious days of your youth....or be a pleasant surprise if you are tasting this British desert for the very first time... All in all a super place to enjoy the best fish and chips in London And oh....don't forget the pickled onion and gherkins!!"

"Had a roast here, was very nice. Only down side was we looked at the menu online to see they did Turkey, but when we arrived they didn't have any. a little bit disappointed as we picked this pla e for the Turkey Roast. Had the beef instead and it was lovely. My partner had the Lamb which was also tender and lovely. Will definitely be back again, hopefully when they are serving Turkey . Price per person: £40–50"
