"We have been eating here on a regular basis for a while now. We have taken friends as well as just going as a couple. It is positioned above the Jolly sailor pub so beware there are stairs to climb. There are seats as you enter along with a bar and a room at the back as well. Paula has a wonderful display of photographs from Italy on display to give it a more authentic feel.We have always been warmly welcomed by the staff and you definitely should book to avoid disappointment, they do have a lot of regulars. We have also visited on special occasions such as Halloween, Valentine's Day and new Year's Eve. On these occasions there are always additions to the usual menu or in the case of NYE a set menu which had to be pre ordered. There are always home made bread buns awaiting you followed by another treat on the house. The menu is varied and there is always a specials blackboard. The starter selection is varied but if you plan a dessert go hungry as the starters are definitely not mean portions. We have tried pretty much all the menu between us and whether your taste is pizza, pasta, meat or fish you will not be disappointed. A dish of either veg of gorgeous chunky chips comes with your main from the meat and fish and a side of salad is enough for two should you opt for that. The desserts are very reasonably priced and often have a seasonal special on them. Coffees are a good price and the wine selection is varied and again a decent price. There are a few typically Italian cocktails on offer too.At the end of the meal you are offered a digestif to set you on your way. We have been in a large group for an outing and they cope steadily with delivery of the meals to all without a long gap.The real draw is the friendly welcome and the kindness the staff display along with the obvious hard work to please the customers.Alex has a dry wit and is delighted if you have a good evening. There is a happy hour from 5 with 25% off menu prices. It is closed on a Sunday except for special occasions."

"So this was our first time visiting this restaurant after hearing some positive feedback from friends. I have to say I am disappointed. Sat at our table to be told there may be a wait for food as there was 2 “big” tables in before us was the first nod that things might not be up to scratch. Sat for 35 minutes before they took our order. 1 of us went to order steak, told there was no steak left at all. I asked what else you got with the chicken and giant Yorkshire to be told that they only had the lamb dinner in large Yorkie pud. I chose the corned beef pie with mash, our friend who wanted the steak chose the “lamb dinner in Yorkshire pud when it arrived it was a chicken breast! Seems they don’t know what they have in the kitchen!! The other main was a sausage casserole with mash…. It looked like a child’s portion. The desserts were ok. We had to keep asking for drinks. Felt like the staff were too busy looking after the “big” tables. If you can’t handle a full restaurant limit the seating plan! Asked for the bill and there’s 4 x £1 extras added. We asked what this was for… to be told that they’re increasing prices on 2 3 course meals. We should be charged the price that was stated on the menu not charged more because you haven’t advertised it accordingly. Overall a disappointing meal out with our friends. We were looking forward to trying this place out but I don’t think we’ll be back."

"Booked as a table of 10 (work night out) we are all nurses and having a well deserved night out. Arrived to be told no booking in diary. Person who organised said she booked via Facebook and got a sharp reply “We need to confirm” she said you did and showed him the reply!! Sent to the bar whilst we waited for a table, took around 15 mins. Due to the new covid rules And one way system this meant we had to Go out and come back in when table ready. Plastic screens also on end of tables but to be honest made no difference as the diners were sitting at either side and the screen isn’t wide enough to offer any protection. Some Waiters wearing masks, but most didn’t most of had them on their chin!! Popadom and pickle tray ordered. No idea what was on the pickle tray!! No onion salad or lime pickle, the only one any of us could determine was mango chutney! We all had starters and mains, all food piping hot and no one complained about quality of food. It was all very tasty. Asked for some to be boxed up to take home. Boxes just put in middle of table. One of the group didn’t notice this and his meal was taken and disposed of. Had he had almost 2/3 left! Anywhere else I’ve been they always box for you! Even just a cheap special on ocean road they always box it for you!! Drinks ordered at the table, had to be chased up on one occasion as one drink forgotten. It’s the service that lets this place down. The food is lovely but I’ve had same quality food with better service on ocean road! And it’s cheaper!"
