"the orange tree is a regular visit, as it is one of our favourites. we decided that we wanted to celebrate our 25-year anniversary with our family and have booked a table for 6. the first thing we have noticed is that it was absolutely full to burst what was unusual for the middle of the week. we really set ourselves fast and our server came to take our drink order. after 15 minutes the drinks had not arrived and I had to ask one of the mandatory administrators to find out where our drinks were. the drinks were picked up immediately and my drink was wrong, I ordered a pint of lime and soda when I drove, I got 300ml, I let it slide as all the other drinks were right. eating was a little slow coming out, 30 minutes too table from the order. I had ordered one of my favorite dishes, chicken supreme with a side of seasonal vegetables. When my court arrived, there was less than a teaspoon sauce on the teller, so I asked to go back to the kitchen. it came a minute later with a tiny bit extra sauce and a few extra lardons I didn't want to send again, but the seasonal veg had not arrived, so I had to ask for them, as well as the lobster sauce for my daughter fish. the seasonal veg was terrible. hanging over the edges of the small servier dish and boiled to death, they could press their fingers through the carrots, and the babyspinate and the long stem brokkoli were limp and lifeless. the chicken itself was nicely cooked and the sauce, which little I had was stunning and the gnocchi was beautiful. my daughter ordered the sea bass in tempura batter, she got sea bass cooked in a thick chip shop battery in the did her fish looked bigger than the portions that our chip store serves (and they are huge) and the sensitive sea bass filets lost in a morass of batter. all other dishes were beautiful. I ordered the sticky toffee pudding for desert and as usual it was a huge amount satisfied and not disappointed. I have to say that throughout the meal, the service was excellent, with beautiful friendly and polite coworkers. I have discussed my eating with the manager and in all fairness to the restaurant they do not charge for my main course. I feel that this was not more than a aberration, because the restaurant was too busy so that the kitchen can be finished, as we eat a lot in the orange tree and that is the first time that we had a meal. we will eat here again, because even with these disappointments they are still one of the best restaurants in the city and also on a bad day they are still very good."

"On the 170m walk up Brick Lane from the Premier Hub, this critically acclaimed restaurant was the only curry house not to harass me to eat, convincing me that passing the other 22 curry houses was worth it. Was it? The window is adorned with reviews like a heavyweight boxer’s trophy room (See images) with the diners inside tucking in , but is it really The King of Brick Lane”? They have a dedicated vegan menu (1st in Brick Lane) with a mix of traditional vegan specialties and plenty of plant based meat substitute dishes too (see menu) with a Bangladeshi Indian influence. [hidden link] A good measure of a older style trad restaurant is the Thali and it was up there with the best of the best. I’ve read why folk want it to be 5 stars and I couldn’t agree more on flavour alone. Shahi Sahakari Thali £18.95 Shahi Sahakari loosely translates as The vegan king . A thali style platter containing a mixture of uribeeshi biran, bombay aloo, begun daal gatta, chowle achar, chappati and rice… The Bombay Aloo had a warming comforting flavour and the potatoes intact but fluffy and soft. The Begun Daal Gatta was a stunning dish of lentils and aubergine (begun) garnished with a fine selection of herbs. This medium spiced curry really did wow me and I’d like it as a main. The Uribeeshi Biran is the beans of a a runnerbean (uribeeshi) which have been fried (biran) with onions and a blend of spices. The beans have bite and work well with the rice although drier than I’d imagined. The Chowle Achar was a surprise as it’s not listed on the Thali menu! The kabali chickpeas are pan cooked with mixed garlic, ginger, punch poron and blended with spread pickle, accompanied by a delicious thin sauce. They were cooked to perfection and with the chapati were second only to the daal as my favourite. The rice and chapati were nice but I had to order an extra chapati so I could ensure every bowl was wiped clean and finished. Not a morsel left. If I’m to be critical, it was expensive and I’d have preferred the Thali on a Thali plate with a little more rice and 2 chapatis, but I couldn’t fault the cooking."

"Ok where to beguine, i personally arranged a get together with some work colleges. i contacted the restaurant explained that there were going to be high numbers and offered to get some menus to assist them by pre ordering their meal. i was told that this would not be necessary as they would put on extra staff, he also told me that this would not be a problem as they had a party of 50 on the Friday before and they were doing the same. So on to the night, the restaurant contacted me to re affirm the booking and numbers i explained the the booking was still on and would call round with the final numbers around 8 o 'clock table booked for 9). i went round told them in person it was 36 with a possible 2 extra. we all had a couple of beers in the pub went round to the restaurant only to have to wait for tables to be re arranged. people sat where they could wilts others ordered drinks, we actually need one extra chair and table that was sorted quickly. Now for the interesting bit, extra staff he said if you call 4 front of house with a child as extra staff then i am surprised. We expected a small wait, we eventually helped ourselves to the menu and handed them out. I personally approached a member of staff after waiting 35 minutes to see what is happening only to be told that they wanted to finish of the other diners to enable them to concentrate on our party, i then said dont you think you can sort some poppadoms out as we have been waiting ages already ? this was done pretty much straight away. Now on to the food to be honest for the price the portions are good value, as far as quality is concerned i for one and a large number in the party were disappointed. in fact the only two good reports i had involved the chicken tikka Marsala. Personally i ordered the mixed starter lamb chewy) special biryani and the sauce to be a madras strength it was not even spicy. End of the night we were shocked to find that there was a charge for the poppadoms, come on 36 diners on top of waiting 45 minutes for their food really? Ok to finish off i have dined here a couple of time but not recently, i as well as the entire party of 36 will not be dining there again nor do i recommend it. I usually include pictures to my feedback however on this occasion i have chosen not to."
