"I got a bit tired of going to my usual curry take away and decided to google take aways around Stroud for an alternative. nargis Tandoori ranked highly on the reviews in the search. So I plucked the courage picked up the phone and ordered away a mini feast of vegetarian delights. The man on the other end of the phone was well spoken and charmingly courteous. The food will be ready in the usual half an hour (not sure how this has come about as the optimal waiting choice)Having driven and parked in the car park opposite the police station, a momentary saunter and you’re confronted by a tiny understated Nargis Tandoori. The door was shut making you thing they may not be open. On trying the door they were! The waiting room really does look like one taken from a real Indian family: stark walls, a telly with an Indian malodramatic drama, the bizarre religious cheap prints and the obligatory security camera behind the make-shift counter with the diy cables in open view. A few minutes in and a man appears from a predominately hidden set of stairs. He is generous and offers me free samosas with the meal and waives the cost of an extra Nan bread. He’s willing me to like this food. I’m won over The food you ask. What about the **** food. Was it any good? Here I’m afraid things take a turn. The chick peas were flavourless. The vegetables pakoras were non greasy nice but again with little flavour. The spinach and cheese and cauliflower sides were smothered in powdered ginger and the speciality veggie roshunwalla had obvious frozen baby carrots and more of the powdered ginger after tastes. I must say I felt let down by the food. Usually I look forward to the left overs the next day but on this occasion it will be a chore or a decision to accept my losses and dump it in the bin. The range of spice flavours was that limiting. It is a shame since I was so willing it to be better based on the reviews and the lovely man who served me."

"We had lunch here whilst staying on the campsite, and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we left disappointed. The lightly dusted calamari starter was all coating and very little calamari, and tough to eat. The house burger The burger patty was nice and well seasoned, and the bacon was really good, but the chicken breast was dry and overcooked. The fries were on the cusp of being incinerated, and were mainly hard. The ones that weren 't though were really nice, so that was a shame. The onion rings looked great, and were definitely home made, but they just tasted of cooking oil. Again, a real shame. The pork belly was also overcooked. There was nobody else eating in the pub when we were there, so not sure whey most of the meal was overdone. The main meals are Two for one , but at £20.00 for the burger, are they really? Nobody checked in on us when we were eating, so couldn 't give any feedback. They do serve a good pint of Guinness though. Maybe it was just an off day, and hopefully others have a much more positive experience."

"Yum! Great food, incredible value, will be back again. Only drawback was the spicy felafel wrap had one big slab of jalapeño at the bottom, no spice throughout and then a giant chunk. Could be better diced before being added to the wrap. Nonetheless food was amazing! Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Falafel in Pitta Recommendation for vegetarians: Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection"

"Cannot comment on any cooked food as we were only looking for a lunchtime sandwich. Surprised at the standard of the bread and the fillings. To be honest was only expecting sliced factory bread and ok fillings. What was actually presented was proper bakers bread brown seeded) and fillings that were huge in quantity and of good quality products devon tickler cheddar for one and smoked salmon for the other. So the old adage I suppose do not judge a book by its cover!! Good value , nice presentation and friendly staff."

"Awful experience! Rude owner (to customers and staff), I would never return. Only go if you enjoy being shouted at by an angry man who explodes over wanted to read a menu before ordering. Go across the road, you'll have a better time. Don't waste your money here."

"We visited here on a Saturday morning for brunch. I was pleased to see dogs are allowed in. The menu clearly showed which items on the menu were vegan. I'd been looking forward to coming here for some time. Unfortunately, the service was dire. After 20 minutes of waiting for a cup of coffee to arrive I went up to the desk to enquire. After 35 minutes, when still nothing had arrived, I went up and ask for our money back as the car park ticket was about to expire. There was no apology. Ironically, it appears that they had just started making our coffees when I went up for a refund. I was asked why I didn't want them. I explained we did want them, but 35 minutes ago! We did get a refund, but obviously not of the generous tip I paid (upfront) for dire service. I doubt we will return."

"A small but enchanting cafe with delicious food and pleasant ambience. It’s not large and you won’t get a 3 course meal but if you just want a delicious cooked breakfast or maybe a “doorstep” bacon sarnie then this is the place for you. There is also a large selection of cakes and the tea and coffee is perfect. Michelle , your host is a lovely lady who will cater for your every need. A nice added touch is the low level bacground music which adds to the relaxed atmosphere in this establishment. Well worth a visit if you are in this small town."

"My wife, two young children, and I visited this restaurant and had a wonderful experience. The bartender was very kind and went out of her way to assist us, providing a high chair and even speaking to the chef to arrange some soup for my wife, who was having difficulty eating solid foods due to tonsillitis. The food was outstanding, all thanks to the chef's extra effort. The service was top-notch and the staff was friendly and accommodating, especially with our children. We are grateful for the excellent experience and will certainly be back when we are in the area again."

"We had our Christmas day lunch here this Christmas just gone. Although the overall experience was quite nice, we (2 of us) were very disappointed, when the main course arrived, to find the turkey was very salty, and the veg (because it was plated up before it came out which I thought was unusual for a restaurant of this standard) consisted of 2 small broccoli florets, just THREE brussel sprouts, THREE slices of carrot, and NONE of the traditional parsnips. For £73 a head we were very disappointed."

"Although the restaurant has high chairs, which might suggest that they cater to children, my wife's recent visit with her family proved otherwise. Despite checking the menus online beforehand, they were informed upon arrival that the online menus were outdated. This meant that the items they had intended to order were no longer available. When my wife requested a children's menu, she was told that they did not have one and would have to order from the regular menu instead. She chose beans on toast for our 3-year-old, but was then informed that it was not possible as breakfast service had ended 20 minutes prior and the toaster had already been put away. Their only options for the child were expensive bagels or baguettes, which we knew our picky eater would not likely eat. The unhelpful staff and lack of response to our message to the business personally were disappointing. While we like to support local businesses, it is important for them to prioritize customer care. Unfortunately, we do not plan on returning to this restaurant anytime soon."

"Cafe site and notices on the door say open 10 4 seven days a week. Arrived in cafe on a Monday and male staff member said to us we don't open Mondays haven't done for ages. His address to us was in a tone that suggested we were stupid for not knowing this. I feel we could be forgiven our lack of understanding of this given the fact of the notices and that there were several people sat around with drinks. An apologetic reception would have seemed more appropriate. Treatment of this type is not what I would expect at any café. Given the ethos of Ruskin this is doubley bad. Can't comment on food or drink as got no chance to sample it. All in all I do not see us subjecting ourselves to such Treatment again."

"Called in here on Saturday for a drink with my wife and a friend having seen their posts on Facebook. We sat in the courtyard garden and ordered drinks from the young, but highly capable staff. We saw others having lunch and, seeing the quality coming out of the kitchen, decided we would too. We ordered the bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich which came with crisps and coleslaw and two prawn cocktails. They were all delicious! This place is also dog friendly and our dog was offered a gluten free sausage on the house. We also met the owners who came over to have a chat. All in all this was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend a visit."

"My partner and I came visit last night, our first date night in a while due to Covid. We sat down outside waited to be served waited 10minutes intill my partner went in to see if they could serve him at the bar. One girl was about to in till another girl came around and said no you have to wait intill we come to you out side. We were waiting a good 20minuted after that, where it got to the point of me going in to ask if we could served as we’d been waiting for god knows how long. People who came in after us getting served before we did. I understand times can be busy, me and my partner worked in a busy pub but when we came wasn’t overly busy at all. Was quite disappointed in the service Garden was lovely and is a lovely pub just a shame about the service."

"Very disappointed as had been recommended The Tipputs and it was our 1st Wedding Anniversary. My starter was completely different to how it was described on the menu. Should have been Wood Pigeon breast on black pudding mash with red wine jus. It came out as a wood pigeon breast with some sort of pickled white cabbage and mustard sauce. I queried this and instead of re plating correctly, I was just brought a little bowl of black pudding mash. I had ordered King Prawns in garlic butter with salad and fries for my main. The dish came out and we were asked if we wanted sauces. I requested salad dressing and the waitress responded 'what? ' so I repeated my request and was brought another bowl with a teaspoon of salad dressing in it. I realised I had no fries so again had to check the menu to make sure I had not been mistaken another trip to the bar to request the missing fries. The plate was cold, the prawns were luke warm and mushy. As the prawns were 'shell on ' I really could have done with a finger bowl. My husband had Rack of Lamb with very little Lamb. We had been advised it would be cooked 'pink ' which would have been perfect except it wasn 't, it was over done. Horribly over priced for the quality of food. We did get a small discount off the bill but even at that price, we felt robbed!"

"What a hidden gem this place is. Location is beautiful, views looking over the water and plenty of countryside on the other side. We picked it as I was looking for somewhere that would keep my little girl happy whilst us grown ups could also relax! They have a new modern play area which kept her entertained and is a really good size, we would come back for that alone I think! However, the staff and the food are really the stars of the show. The staff were so welcoming and kind and helpful from the moment we arrived which set the scene for the whole visit. The food menu is full of lots of scrummy sounding options too. We opted for calamari, white bait, home made faggots, a ploughman’s and a kids chicken nuggets. Every dish was delicious. The kids nuggets were more like home made chicken goujons and the chips were extremely morish! The ploughman’s stole the show for me but my partner couldn’t get enough of his home made faggots either! Highly recommend this place and I am so pleased we chanced it to come here. Please keep doing what you’re doing."

"We were staying locally and our host had recommended this place and it wasn’t a long walk so gave it a try, it was fairly quiet but due to social distancing this suited us well. The man who served us, believes it was the owner was polite and friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted. The food was good and plentiful, popadoms to start then we had a mixed starter which was delicious and samosa then one of the specials, I can’t remember the name, a couple of veg side dishes rice and naan and as we took our own drinks it came to around £43 which is good value. My only negative is that the ladies toilets were pretty grim! The dust on the skirting boards was pretty thick and I made a comment to my other half that as we’ve just come out of lockdown you’d think the least they could’ve done is a deep clean. It’s quite dated but I think the prices reflect this."

"My friend and I have tried the vegan veggie burger multiple times and it is always delicious. The manager recently offered us two options of vegan pukka pies (chicken mushroom or minced steak and onion), and they were both extremely tasty! He is expanding the vegan menu to include burgers, pies, and sausages. Vegan food enthusiasts should keep an eye out for these additions! Additionally, the manager is always friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant."

"We booked a table for sat night for 4 couples .We last visited the Prince 2 years ago and had the most awful meal after various stand in landlords had run the place into the ground we vowed never to return.I am glad we did return as the transformation is great lovely friendly landlord and land lady and we were looked after all evening by Steve what a great people person. We even met the chef and complimented him on the food served. The food was very tasty and presented nice and hot ,steaks ,gammon, chicken various dishes and all clean plates at the end.One of our party mentioned that it was the nicest meal he had ever had at the Prince .The new carpet and re decoration makes for a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely support the Prince and wish them all the best for the future nice to have our local back .See you soon keep up the good work ."
